Price Road Ramblings 02.07.2021

Sunday, April 18, 2021. Good morning. We ended up keeping "the Hooligans" here over the "March Break in April". There were not many dull moments, I must say. Most of the time they were pretty good boys. They're 7 now, & they've learned such things as being able to tell time on a "non digital" clock. I'm hoping that they also learn how to write, if only they ever want to read letters written by their ancestors. Our new "lockdown / "stay at home" rules change almost hour...Continue reading

Price Road Ramblings 16.06.2021

Good morning. April 11, 2021. It appears that today will be our last "nice" day for a while. It's pretty easy to grow accustomed to temperatures in the 60's & low 70's. I noticed the daffodils that Delma Thompson ( Cronk) planted decades ago are in full bloom. This morning's walk was rather uneventful . . . . mostly just distant sounds. A couple of barred owls I suspect have nested perhaps a half-mile or more south of here & seem to have a lot to say. However, the sound ...Continue reading

Price Road Ramblings 10.06.2021

Good Morning, & Happy Easter to all. It appears that here along the Price Road, we have an absolutely lovely day in store for us. Spring has sprung . The deer are out of the woods & feeding in the fields again, the wild turkeys are spending their nights again in the big maple behind the house, the male robins are staking out their territories, the geese are taking up residence in Clark's marsh, & the Barred Owls I usually see every couple of days are noticeably absent . .... . . I suspect they're incubating the next generation. They don't nest quite as early as the Great Horned Owls. We're blessed with yet another "lockdown" here in Ontario. We're all pretty tired of this, & I'm pretty damned sure that there'll be an equal number ignoring the rules as are complying. I realize that lots of businesses are really essential, but I do have issues with the "big box" stores being able to do business pretty much "as usual" while the little guy with a nice lunch menu can't open at all, & scores go in to Costco & can get a cheap, hi-calorie lunch. I've spent a fortune in restaurants over the years. I had no choice ... that was a part of trucking for a living. As much as I want to see restaurants prosper, their being closed has not affected me much . . . a health scare a couple of years ago dictated that I needed to eliminate fried foods from my diet. So, "fish & chips" is no longer on my menu. Most restaurants offer absolutely nothing that I'd consider "good for me" . . . . . even a Caesar Salad has more weight in dressing than in lettuce. We bought a camper a few years back, mostly because I was sick of staying in crappy motels & eating crappy food. Before you think "why wouldn't you stay in a hotel?", you need to realize that 95% of our travels do not involve a city. For instance, in the 300+ km from Sudbury to Sault Ste. Marie, there are no modern hotels along the Trans Canada Hwy, & only a couple of nice motels. It's now 6am, & time for my "morning stroll". I have nothing more to say, so I'm signing off. Have an absolutely wonderful, blessed day. TR
