Each year, Pride Month allows for our community to celebrate who they are and reflect on a history that is too often overlooked. Today, you can see Pride parades across the globe where LGBTQ+ people can celebrate who they are. However, it is important to remember that the only reason we have these celebrations is because of black transwomen who led uprisings, riots, and rebellions in order to fight for our rights. It is because they fought against police brutality and the un...fair treatment of LGBTQ+ people that we as a community have the rights that we do today. Which is why we stand strong in solidarity with the black lives matter movement and the black community in the fight against racism and injustice. In the coming weeks, months, and beyond, we as an organization commit to doing what we can to continue to amplify their voices. Black transwomen are the reason we are brought together as a community, and as such we believe that racism has no place in Pride. While you celebrate Pride month, we ask that you take the time to listen to black people and people of colour and to educate yourself on how you can be a better ally to black the community. We must all work together to fight against anti-black racism and learn how to be a better ally because without the black community, we wouldn’t have pride month to begin with. As they stood with us in our fight for liberation, we too shall stand with the black community in the fight for their rights because black lives should always matter. See more
