Is it safe to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to try to save his life? Or are you risking being infected with the novel coronavirus or giving it to a dying man? There’s an answer: It’s strongly encouraged that people perform CPR or chest compressions on others during the global pandemic, according to a report published by a group of Seattle emergency room physicians in the journal Circulation....Continue reading

Mom saves choking daughter using technique she’d just learned in CPR class We could not have asked for a better outcome, the sheriff said. A Florida mom saved her 14-month-old daughter’s life thanks to the skills she learned during a CPR class hosted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.... Back in January, the sheriff’s office hosted the class for family members of sheriff’s office employees. Sarah Herrera, who’s father is a corporal, attended the class. Recently, Herrera was feeding her daughter dinner when the child began choking on a piece of chicken. Herrera said she immediately remembered a technique taught in her class. She placed her toddler’s stomach down and began hitting her back to dislodge the food. It worked! In a press release Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said Herrera reached out to HCSO to express her gratitude for the class. We all hope to never be in a position where we must use CPR on a loved one or even a stranger, but I believe that having those life-saving skills, just in case, is essential. That is why I chose to offer CPR classes not only to employees of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office but their families as well, said Sheriff Chad Chronister. This is a situation where knowing CPR and having the confidence to perform it saved the life of Ms. Herrera’s little girl. We could not have asked for a better outcome. Is Water really the best way to hydrate? The basic guideline for most people is that if you are doing continuous exercise for 60 minutes or less, then water is fine. Says Suzanne Gerard Eberle, sport’s dietitian and author of Endurance Sports Nutrition. This is because sports drinks include electrolytes (which help regulate nerves and muscles), carbohydrates (which help restore the body’s glycogen or fuel levels) and water (which helps hydrate).... Because of this, electrolyte drinks do more to restore virtual nutrients of a longer period of time while working or exercising. This allows your body to stay at peak performance during strenuous activities. Every second you work or exercise, you are losing important fluids and nutrients that keep your body at full capacity. Hydration is your body’s ability to manage this loss and return to its prime working condition. But this is what you really need to remember. When you’re hydrated, the fluid level in your body is exactly where it should be, in balance. When you’re dehydrated, your fluid level is off, out of balance. Hydrating in hot and cold conditions is critical to maintaining balance for performing well at work. So how does your body get in balance? With a lot of help from your brain. The process is called homeostasis. Here’s how it works. Your body has a special receptor that detects any changes that happen inside of you. When you lose fluids, this receptor notifies the hypothalamus in your brain, which regulates your body’s temperature. Your hypothalamus takes it from there to carry out homeostasis and put your body back in balance. It does this by increasing the blood flow to your skin surface, triggering sweating and thirst. When you’re thirsty, you know you need to hydrate. But drinking water alone won’t do the job. Water doesn’t contain the electrolytes your body needs to keep it in balance. That’s why you need Sqwincher. Sqwincher hydration solutions contain a correct balance of sodium, potassium, and other key electrolytes. And these are the exact minerals your body needs to keep it working well and in tip-top shape. facebooklike us Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com//7f2f71dc-dda1-11e1-af1d-75 #Dehydration, #Hyrdation, #Sports #Drinks, Phone: 7802374477 #Training #Health & Safety#AED & CPR#Online Store#Shop Now #Employee

CERTIFICATE EXTENSIONS As per Alberta Occupational Health & Safety, several training providers have placed extensions for recertification on their courses, allowing currently certified workers more time to recertify their existing tickets as training options may be limited. To date, specific extensions include: ENERGY SAFETY CANADA: A new expiry date of September 1, 2020 has been issued for all certifications expiring between January 1, 2020 and September 1, 2020. This includ...es but is not limited to H2S Alive, OSSA Fall Protection, OSSA Elevated Work Platform and OSSA Confined Space certifications. RED CROSS: All certification expiring between March 2020 and June 2020 will be extended 90 days past their expiration date. This includes Advanced, Standard and Emergency First Aid certifications. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE: All certifications expiring after March 17, 2020 will be extended by 90 days past their expiration date. This includes Advanced, Standard and Emergency First Aid certifications. FIRST AID TRAINING OPTIONS Given the close contact nature and extensive practical components of First Aid programs, program availability is becoming increasingly limited. Alberta Occupational Health & Safety has implemented a temporary allowance for workers to complete only the online portion of a blended training program, with skills demonstrations or practical training to be completed at a later date. Students who complete this training will be issued interim certification. Please feel free to contact Prime First Aid for further assistance

Tis the season for holidays and germs Read on for surprising germ prevention Using paper towels to dry your hands is far more hygienic than using electric ha...nd dryers. Using hand dryers actually increases the amount of bacteria on hands and can spread cross contamination in public washrooms, according to an independent scientific study. The study, conducted by scientists at the University of Westminster, London, measured the number of bacteria on subjects’ hands before washing and after drying them using three different methods paper towels, a traditional warm air dryer and a new high-speed jet air dryer. From a hygiene standpoint, paper towels are clearly superior to electric hand dryers, according to Keith Redway, a Senior Academic in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Westminster. Study results show that drying with paper towels results in a significant decrease in the numbers of bacteria on the hands a clear advantage compared with the increases observed for both types of electric hand dryers tested in this study and are far less likely to contaminate other washroom users and the washroom environment. Indeed, these findings suggest that if either a warm air dryer or jet air dryer is the only drying method available, in terms of bacterial numbers, a washroom user could be better off not washing and drying their hands at all, Redway says. The Study found that paper towel drying reduced the average number of bacteria on the finger pads by up to 76 percent and on the palms by up to 77 percent. By comparison, electric hand dryers actually caused bacteria counts to increase. The study showed: Traditional warm air dryers increased the average number of bacteria by 194 percent on the finger pads and by 254 percent on the palms. Jet air dryers increased the average number of bacteria on the finger pads by 42 percent and on the palms by 15 percent. The scientists also carried out tests to establish whether there was the potential for cross-contamination of other washroom users and the washroom environment as a result of each type of drying method. They found: The jet air dryer, which blows air out of the unit at claimed speeds of 400 mph, was capable of blowing micro-organisms from the hands and the unit and potentially contaminating other washroom users and the washroom environment up to 2 meters away. Use of a traditional warm air hand dryer spread micro-organisms up to 0.25 meters from the dryer. Paper towels showed no significant spread of micro-organisms. The results of all parts of this study suggest that the use of warm air dryers and jet air dryers should be carefully considered in locations where hygiene is of paramount importance, such as hospitals, clinics, schools, nurseries, care homes, kitchens and other food preparation areas, said Redway. In addition, paper hand towel use is highly beneficial for improved hygiene in any other facilities open to the public, such as factories, offices, bars and restaurants. While consumers, healthcare institutions and businesses such as restaurants are often told that electric hand dryers are the most hygienic way to dry the hands after washing them, science says otherwise. A growing body of research, including this study by the University of Westminster and other studies as far back as 1989, suggest people could even be putting themselves at increased risk of illness by using electric hand dryers.
