October is RVT month! What is an RVT? A registered Veterinary Techinican is an individual who has graduated from an accredited Vet tech program and who has successfully passed the VTNE (Veterinary technicians national exam.) ... Many of their roles within a veterinary clinic setting include: taking and developing x rays, anesthetic delivery and monitoring, clinical laboratory procedures, blood draw and IV catheter placements, dental cleaning, client education/customer service and MUCH more! Pictured below are Sarah (left) and Michelle (right), our full time vet techs. Tabby is our RVT who helps out on Fridays (not pictured), and Megan is on maternity leave Sarah has been with Prince Edward Animal Hospital since March 2012 and Michelle since September 2019. We appreciate the hard work and dedication that they bring to work everyday! #rvtmonth2020 #rvtmonth #oavt

Today is World Rabies Day! Rabies attacks the central nervous system of humans and animals. Once clinical signs appear, it’s almost always fatal. Here are some rabies facts ... The virus is spread by rabies vector species such as bats, skunks, fox and raccoons in Canada. Rabies is spread through direct contact with saliva from an infected animal (such as a bite) There were 65 reported animal cases from the CFIA (Canadian food inspection agency) of Rabies in Ontario in 2019. Although Rabies cases are lower than they used to be, it is still very important to immunize our companion animals to reach the goal of eradicating rabies worldwide in 2030. Did you know 4.6 billion people are at risk of contracting rabies; which is attributed to dog bites (in countries where Rabies isn’t as controlled ). ATTENTION: unfortunately due to Covid-19 the Health Unit is not organizing the low cost Rabies Clinic this year. Please call us to book a vaccine appointment during our regular hours 8-6 Mon-Fri. #VaccinateToEliminate #worldrabiesday2020

FRIENDLY REMINDERS We are still closed Saturdays at this time, but open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. We GREATLY appreciate when food and medication orders are called in prior to your arrival. This gives us time to put it aside for you and make sure it’s in stock! ... You can still pay for your order over the phone and we can leave it on the porch for you. This allows for no wait time! Please CALL or KNOCK when you arrive. We understand our phone lines are busy (we are working on ways to improve that). Please waits NEAR or IN your vehicle for your appointment until a staff member comes to you to get your animal. Our porch needs to be kept freed as we can’t ensure proper spacing between clients, and we are constantly moving animals in and out. Once again, THANK YOU for your patience and understanding
