Prince Edward Island Ground Search and Rescue 14.02.2021

KNOT OF THE MONTH: JANUARY 2021 NAME: Bowline... One of the most useful knots you can know. The Bowline forms a secure loop that will not jam and is easy to tie and untie. USE: The Bowline is most commonly used for forming a fixed loop, large or small at the end of a line. ADVANTAGES: Tried and tested over centuries, this knot is reliable, strong and stable. Even after severe tension is applied it is easy to untie. DISADVANTAGES: However, because it does untie so easily it should not be trusted in a life or death situation such as mountain climbing. It is said to retain 60% of the strength of the line in which it is tied. TIPS: The rabbit goes up the hole around the tree and back down the hole - memory aid for tying this know LINKS TO LEARN: Animated Knots by Grog: https://www.animatedknots.com/bowline-knot 101 Knots: https://www.101knots.com/bowline-knot.html Net Knots: https://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/bowline

Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected by this tragedy. "RCMP confirm that earlier today, at approximately 8:00 a.m. Thursday, September 24th, the body of the second missing teen was found by fishermen in the Cascumpec area. Family members have been notified. While a sombre conclusion, all those involved are relieved to bring closure to the family. Extensive searching has been done and the RCMP would like to recognize the many people who participated in the... recovery of the two teens over the last week. While the list may not be inclusive of all that took part, RCMP would like to thank: PEI Ground Search and Rescue Volunteer Searchers Joint Rescue Coordination Centre DND/Coast Guard/Coast Guard Auxilliary DFO boats and operators Parks Canada boat and operator PEI Fisheries and Communities Aquaculture boat and operators Conservation Officers from PEI Justice and Public Safety boat and operators Fox Island Elite Seed Farm for Command Post location Underwater Recovery Team from RCMP NB and NS RCMP Helicopter RCMP officers from all counties across P.E.I. who covered shifts with West Prince Island Emergency Services Local Fire Department staff and volunteers Northport Community Centre Northport Harbour Authority And, to the incredible number of volunteers who showed up and continue to support the families and those who participated in the search. It has been humbling. Our thoughts continue to be with the families and friends of those lost and the young man who survived this ordeal."

Huge thank you to Bolger Motorsports Inc. who this morning kindly donated two retired, full-face helmets to us for our advanced first aid training. During this course, we practice helmet removals in case of an incident involving a snowmobiler, dirt bike rider, ATV rider, or someone else wearing a helmet.. Shane answered a social media post requesting we borrow a couple of helmets and we had them in hand within two hours. We so appreciate your support!
