We will be at Caledonia Nordic tomorrow morning, providing hot chocolate! Come by and say hello, and find out a bit more about what PGSAR does! :)
This is a good winter reminder.
We are so lucky to be apart of this wonderful and generous community. A big thank you to our friends at PG Floor Fashions Ltd for their support and recent donation of $1,000!
Avalanche Canada has issued a Special Public Avalanche Warning. This is a good time to dial back some of our mountain adventures be it skiing, snowmobiling or snowshoeing. We are hoping that people will listen to this and have a safe and enjoyable Christmas.
PGSAR was tasked this afternoon for a satellite messenger SOS call. It turned out to be an accidental activation of the device. This happens and we will always respond to the call, with no charge and no questions asked. We would like to remind people that if you own one of these devices, put it in a hard case in your backpack or consider this lock built just to stop accidental activations from happening: http://soslock.ca/.
Wondering about our availability this Christmas holiday?
Good morning. This weekend the Fire Department has been training and re-certifying many of our members on Ice Rescue operations. Many of you may have seen us op...erating on Ness lake and Nukko Lake this weekend. We wanted to advise you that the Ice conditions are absolutely terrible on the lakes in the surrounding area. We have found many spots on the lakes that ice fisherman have used within the last 24 hours and we managed to break through extremely easily within meters of their holes. There are many open holes around the lake, both naturally occurring and man made that have contributed to absolutely deplorable conditions. We strongly discourage any use of the lakes. When testing the ice you are looking for clear ice when measuring thickness, NOT snow ice(white ice).
A great reminder, regardless of your experience. Always leave a trip plan with a friend or family member. Ensure you have adequate training. Come equipped with the proper gear and safety equipment for the particular outdoor activity you’re engaging in.
Want a more in depth look at Search and Rescue operations in BC? Episode two of the five-part Search and Rescue: North Shore - Series airs on the Knowledge network at 9pm tonight! It will also be available for streaming at: www.knowledge.ca/sarns
Great news from one our tasking agencies. This is a great asset for all of us in northern bc.
Good advice from Avalanche Canada.
Prince George Search and Rescue and neighbouring SAR teams were tasked twice last night for two separate searches, involving missing youth in Hixon and Quesnel areas. Both searches had happy outcomes with all 4 youth safe. We wish everyone a safe and spooky Halloween!

PGSAR sends out thoughts to our friends on South Caribou Search and Rescue with the passing of John Tucker. John taught many people across the province and will be missed by everyone who he taught and worked with.
Congrats to our three new Ground Search Team Leaders Chris, Jane and Kayden! They successfully completed their Team Leader course this weekend with six other SAR volunteers from around Northern BC. Well done all!
Paramedics are responding to a higher number of calls for drownings/near drownings and emergencies on the water this summer. There were a total of 11 incidents ...this past weekend a marked increase from the average of 4. As you head to the water please be smart about it: http://ow.ly/3LAY50B2Ghx See more
Training is key to performance and safety! PGSAR and Yellowhead Helicopters practiced technical helicopter operations in the blustery weather this weekend, including hover entry/exit and CDFL ("Dope on a Rope") insertions. We train in diverse conditions so that we are prepared to respond when the public needs us! Remember: all rescues are free. Thank you Dave B. and Joanna C. for the photos.
