Tapestry's fundraiser Upcoming Fundraiser: Purdy's chocolate Tapestry's 2020-2021 Fundraising Calendar is filled with a variety of money making activities. Instead of raising money for a SENIOR Singer Festival Trip, money will be raised by singers in both choirs, with proceeds going toward the transition costs of moving from a mostly "live" performance season to a mostly "live streamed" and "recorded" season.... Please have a look for detailed information about our fundraiser on Tapestry Singers' website (https://www.pgtapestry.ca) For fundraiser:https://www.pgtapestry.ca/home/fundraisers Also stay tuned for an innovate video outlining Tapestry's Mission and Fundraising Goals for 2020-2021!! One of our Alumni Singers, Rachelle Deutsch, is volunteering with both the JUNIOR and SENIOR Singers this year. In addition to volunteering with Tapestry, Rachelle is hoping to start up a new online business, "Port of Conversation". Read more below. Good luck, Rachelle! Since Rachelle has left Tapestry as one of the SENIOR singers in 2016, she completed her BA at SFU in December 2019. Since then she has travelled to Africa where she rode a camel at the pyramids, went rafting ...in the Zambezi River, and saw many animals (including pumbas). Upon her return to Canada in April, she started her own company, Port of Conversation, where she is working with adults learning English as an additional language. With Tapestry starting again, she is back to the community volunteering. Website: http://portofconversation.com

Here is Carolyn with her B.C. Community Achievement Award! A beautifully framed certificate, along with a gold medallion and lapel pin. One side of the medallion features the British Columbia coat of arms and the other carries a design by renowned First Nations artist, Robert Davidson, OC, OBC - His words describe the meaning within the art: "Cultural Hero; spirited, undaunted, fearless, bold. Raising our awareness to a higher understanding."

The posts will include video updates on what our choir community has been doing since April 1st and how we see ourselves moving forward in mid-August. For those of you who are not sure why singing is such a safety concern, read the article below. We will find a way forward, we always do. xxoo Carolyn https://www.cbc.ca//british-co/choirs-and-covid-1.5618270

INSPIRATION There are many conversations out there about the challenges we are facing. It makes sense to mourn what is happening. I want to encourage us to remember that the arts are always under great scrutiny. You’ve heard the comments: "What shall we cut? Well they don't test musical skill on the SAT, so that can go." Let's find solutions. We don’t want to compromise safety; we need to raise up the parts of our art that we still can. It's hard enough to remind people of th...e importance of music in normal times, even though I don't know anyone who doesn't listen to music every day. So please, let's work together to protect this art, and community music-making. Distill it down: What is singing together about? Making music reflects that which makes us human. No one can change that whether we're together or apart. We're still human, and we need connection. Let's find solutions to keep the choral boat afloat until we can be together again and celebrate what we love. Otherwise, I'm afraid it will be too easy to trivialize something that for many people is a necessary part of what makes us feel alive. Dr. Amanda Quist, Director of Choral Activities, Frost School of Music, University of Miami & ACDA National R&R Coordinator for Collegiate Choirs

Rajaton is a Finnish a cappella ensemble, founded in Helsinki in 1997. ... They have earned eight gold records in total, with Rajaton Sings ABBA reaching platinum (30,000) and Joulu reaching double platinum (60,000). Rajaton mainly performs a cappella, music written or arranged by members of the ensemble. The Finnish word rajaton means "boundless", to indicate the breadth of their repertoire, from sacred classical to near Europop. Here they are with, Dancing Queen. Seems l...ike a good song for this beautiful, sunny day. Thanks to Fabiola, for the link! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClVqVhvTKg0

Good Morning! I have been reminded lately of the importance of singing and singing together. John Rutter, composer, conductor, musician, master of all things, and a lovely person, speaks for a short time in this video about the art of choral singing. It's worth the 3 minutes. Tapestry has sung several of his compositions: Angel's Carol, Donkey Carol, Jesus Child, and both choirs are currently learning his composition, The Lord Bless You and Keep You. Enjoy and keep singing! We WILL sing together again very soon. xxoo Miss D. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqsjkLPeuAQ

Jacques Pepin. A remarkable individual and remarkable chef. If you don't know who he is, look him up. He is doing an almost daily Facebook page, including recipes, videos, and words of kindness. A true artist in the kitchen. Here is an example: Good morning. Cooking is a craft. It can also be an art. I learned when I was a young boy in the kitchen, you must practice your craft if you ever hope to express your art. I think that’s true of everything creative. Each time a chef approaches a recipe, just like each time a musician approaches a musical score, the challenge is to translate the craft into art. The musician comforts the soul through sound. The painter through color and light. The chef through taste, texture and aroma. There can be beauty in music and paint, but a chicken properly roasted can also be a small work of art. -J

Hi everybody, what a beautiful day outside. I hope everyone can drink in some of that sunshine at some point today. As many of you know, my boarder Badhri is from Chennai, India. Prior to the recent 21 day lock down for all of India, there was a 12 hour lock down. At the end of the 12 hours, everyone went out on their patios and clapped their hands for folks who are on the front lines. Here is a video from his city of Chennai.

The Prince George Community Foundation needs your support! After raising $84,000 with last year’s play, Miracle Theatre is donating a second comedy to the Foundation. It’s called The Birds and The Bees. The funds donated will go to The Children of Prince George Fund under the trusteeship of the Community Foundation to support children related charities throughout the community. ... Theatre practitioners Ted Price and Anne Laughlin have hired some of their favourite actors from across Canada. In January they flew them into Prince George to begin rehearsals. Performances begin on Feb. 12th. The play takes place at ArtSpace, above Books and Company, which Miracle Theatre has converted into a theatre. Performances are every night, except Mondays, and at both 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Sundays. Tickets are only $34, available at Books and Company. Or order by phone at 250-563-6637 and your tickets will be waiting for you at the door the night of your performance. We hope you’ll be there to support the Community Foundation while enjoying a night of fun and laughter!
