Classical Yoga In Your Home 17.12.2020

This is a short caption of my yoga presentation that I designed last week and then connected to our 46 inch tv using a dongle. I am planning on taking my yoga classes live using Zoom in the near future. Stay tuned!

Doing the more active yoga postures or asanas prior to meditation relaxes the mind and body so they are both more prepared for even more stillness. You are able to expel any negative tension or thoughts so that they don’t distract you during meditation.

Here is another way to set up your meditation. If you don’t have the wall space to meditate against the wall or some other firm flat surface for your back, try this. Get a flat rectangular yoga bolster and place it against a piece of furniture like a low table, couch or chair. This provides excellent support for your back, as it is quite firm. You then place a folded blanket to sit on. When you sit down, ensure your tail bone is right up against the bolster, and you are sitti...ng upright. No collapsed alignment. Bend your knees and place your feet flat on the floor. Wrap your arms around your knees or place them over your knees and just let them dangle or rest your hands on your thighs. You can also cover your legs with a blanket. I have several yoga blankets that I use with my yoga students as well. Throughout the meditation if you notice your posture collapses, just bring your shoulders back and down and press your spine firmly against the bolster. This is so comfortable. This may be my new go to meditation posture when I am at home. OM Peace. See more

Listening to Deepak Chopra's 21 Day meditation series, "Perfect Health." This time I believe I am going to finish it. Here are some meditation tips: What is your favourite way to meditate? Do you do it from the floor or do you prefer a chair? Whichever you choose, it is important you are steady and comfortable. If you prefer the chair you may need a blanket under your hips and another one under your feet. Come to the front of the chair so you are not tempted to lean back. Tr...y to maintain an upright position. On the floor you may likely need one or two blankets under your hips and additional blankets under both knees or thighs. Sukhasana or "easy pose" where you sit cross legged may not be appropriate for this kind of meditation as your foot will likely fall asleep. You may instead need to sit in the burmese posture or half lotus. If these don't work, you may like the horse straddling position, kneeling with 2 or three stacked blankets or a bolster underneath you to provide stability, and place a blanket or towel underneath each knee. i tried this recently and it works. Another posture is sitting against a wall or firm piece of furniture with your legs outstretched. This works too. You can place a bolster or folded blankets on top of your thighs so that you can place your folded arms directly on top. These are just suggestions. If you have issues with knees, hips or back, you may just stick with the chair. Another suggestion is an eye pillow. This not only keeps out the light but helps to stimulate the vagus nerve, the cranial nerve that connects the brain to the body. OM Peace. See more
