The new way of doing things , touch-less door operator switches . Companies are coming up with more ways to make things safer and easier to use. They are also providing information on proper cleaning of locks, not just for sanitary reasons , but to help protect finishes. These touch-less switches can replace existing push switches using the existing wiring . Have a safe and secure day everyone - Kevin 902-350-0409

I rekeyed the locks on this property last spring. One of the things I enjoy about my job is the places it takes me and some of the things I get to see. This home is really unique as you can see. This was just a hobby for the owner and he has left all of it as a donation to the Nova Scotia Nature trust. Pretty Amazing.

Single station intercom I installed today. Business is only letting customers in who have appointments. They wanted something that would allow them to talk to people who just drop by without having to unlock and open the door. Had to drill through the brick and thick wall to feed wire from outside station to inside. Used wire mold to conceal the transformer wire that powers the intercom. This unit can also run off batteries. It can also be used with an electric strike release. The only downside is the chime can be loud and there is no way to tone it down. Volume for talking is adjustable.

Not your typical deadbolt installation. Customer wanted a digital lock installed on their shed. It took a bit longer than a regular installation and thankfully the steady rain didn't start til I was nearly finished. There are other options available but this is what the customer wanted. I like the spin to lock feature on the LSDA el20 deadbolts. These locks have no motor to extend and retract the bolt. To lock it simply rotate the dial . To unlock , enter your code and turn the dial in the opposite direction you did to lock it. You can program in your own codes and it is easy to do. Have a Safe and Secure evening .

About 4 years ago I replaced all the locks on a beautiful seaside house. The customer was looking for something would stand up to the weather as the existing locks where all in hard shape finish wise. Finding residential grade locks that hold up well near the ocean is something of a task. I have had good luck with Baldwin lifetime brass and other lifetime brass finishes ,but brass is really no longer a favorite finish. I installed Schalge satin nickel finish on this h...ouse 4 years ago and the customer called recently and said the finish was in rough shape again on the main entry doors. One thing about Schlage and Weiser is thier warranty, I suggested they call Schlage since the locks are under warranty. Schlage sent the customer brand new replacement locks for the 2 doors, I would say probably $300 worth of locks, which I installed for them . Customer was very pleased with Schlage customer service and happy with the results. See more

Changed the deburring wheel on my key machine today. I would say it was about time. The key machine is probably the one tool a locksmith or hardware store wouldn't want to be without for very long. While electronics have made thier way into many security products, there are still plenty of keys at work. If you can't find a key your looking for , give me call. I carry many keys that you may not find elsewhere. Have a good evening and may it be a Safe and Secure one.

Hi, been awhile since I posted , hope you all are enjoying the summer. I have been relatively busy with the usual , car openings, rekeys , lock installs etc. Have had the opportunity in the last month or so to open a few safes which can be a challenge, but also interesting. There can be many reasons why a safe won't open , sometimes the combination has been forgotten or maybe the person who had the combo passed away. There can also be mechanical failures , and now days electronic ones as well. Safes also require some maintenance now and then as well. Dial locks need to be cleaned and re lubed as well as the bolt works . If your having trouble getting your safe open , now is the time to have it serviced to prevent getting locked out. As usual , hope you all have a Safe and Secure day.

While rekeying some locks I noticed one of the doors was not latching when closed. Few minor adjustments to the door closer and the door closed and latched shut. There can be more than just a simple adjustment to make some doors close. The position of the closer arm can effect closer operations. Loose components and lost of fluid can be a problem. If you have closer that is not working correct give me call. I do adjustments , replacements and new installs.

Another job I could have used a door wrap on , but the customer wanted something a little more suited for a door on an older home. I used a remodeler kit from Don Jo manufacters to replace the existing skeleton key mortise lock. I also used an LSDA leverset instead of a door knob type lock. With older doors many times the distance between the jamb and lock is not that far. I call those knuckle busters, with leverset , you have an easier time opening the door. Hope you all have a Safe and Secure day.

Couple of jobs done with wrap around plates. The large one used on a door that was damaged from a kick in. The small one used on a door that had some damage around the latch, it also helped cover up some of the existing hole when I changed the backset from 2 3/8 to 2 3/4. The plates make a good repair and also strengthen the area around the lock. Hope you all have a Safe , Secure and Healthly day.

My work space for a bit today. Rekeyed a few Sargent 8 line lockets at the old mill. When the mill was up and running I had master keyed these same locks. You can see part of my set up is a small pin kit. That kit contains all original pins and springs for Sargent only. I usually use a larger multi use kit which can be used to key to variety of locks. I had hired a company years ago to replace windows in my house. One of the installers said that he had a couple of unused pin kits that he would like to give me the next time they came to town. True to his word he showed up the next week with both kits. I have used them both many times. Have a Safe and Secure Day

One of my jobs recently was to change the combination on a safe. I also removed the lock , disassembled , cleaned and lubed it. Customer wanted the combo changed but where also having problems dialing it open. Many times a cleaning and fresh lube will solve this problem. I also check the lock over for other things that may cause problems in the future. If you have a safe that's been getting more difficult to dial open , requiring multiple attempts sometimes. It is probably time to have the lock serviced. Got a lock problem, need a solution. Give me a call or text or e mail. Have a Safe and Secure day. 902 350 0409
