Our Upper Elementary students have been very busy this past month studying Ancient civilizations. The Grade Four students completed a study of Mesopotamia and the Sumerians. Our Grade Five and Six students were totally immersed in a study of Ancient Greece. Here are some of the follow-up projects to their studies!
Due to the impending storm we will be closing the school today. We hope everyone stays safe.
This week the children prepared for and celebrated Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day! It was a beautiful week and ended with a sliding party! :)
Our Lower Elementary class spent the morning ringing in the New Year - the Lunar New Year that is. Each student was given an envelop with a coin that is to be placed under their pillow to bring good luck in the new year. They even spent time cleaning their classroom. The tradition is you clean to get rid of the old and bring in the new. Even our pets got into the New Year's celebration.
Celebrating Black History Month!! This week the children began some focused learning about Black History and it was amazing. They read some amazing books, did a little experiment that introduced our talk about different skin colours and all the children wrote and drew about a dream they have to follow our books about Martin Luther King Jr. and his "I Have a Dream" speech. The children talked about equality and not judging someone based on the colour of their skin. A truly rewarding week.
Remembering those who sacrificed so much for us ... Thank you.
For all whom have served, or are currently serving, we remember. We thank you for your service to keep us safe.
Our Lower Elementary students spent the day vermicomposting with The Ville. They were all able to prepare a habitat for their worms and bring them home with instructions on how to take care of them. Ms. Crystal has taken the initiative this year to introduce important eco-conscious behaviours to her students. They will be working their way through 50 Classroom Climate Action challenges throughout the school year. They have a scratch-as-you-go poster that they received from The Gaia Project (a local environmental non-profit).
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween!
