DAY 3 Jan. 8, 2021 Today my workout consisted of virtual kick boxing, a great workout with @jennastevie @workofartyeg ... and a 6.7 km walk in the beautiful sunshine! I also get @goodfoodca boxes so it makes meal planning easy for dinners. Then a 20 min stretching session with @romwod to prime me for a good sleep. It’s inevitable that if you’re pushing your body to the max day in and day out in the gym you will experience pain/injury. That does NOT mean we continue to blindly push through pain or go to the opposite (as many in the medical field would have us do) and just stop lifting heavy all together. We learn and get better! . Injuries are a chance to improve our training methods and learn about how our body works. Understand how your body responds to certain training methods or spe...cific technique errors. An educated athlete or gym goer is something we should all aim to become. . Remember, your body adheres to a scientific code. Stress from training plus recovery equals adaptation and growth! This is how we gain strength, muscle, and improve our performance. When we disregard this code by over training and/or don’t do enough recovery work there’s an increased risk of injury. When we lift with poor technique, this happens even faster. When an injury does occur, take time to learn why it happened and how you can adapt and change your training to help avoid a recurring injury. Do not just use passive treatments alone (massage, needling, cupping). Find someone who will educate you and teach you how to be a part of an active recovery process so you can become empowered to take control of your body! . Why should you reduce #swelling of an #injury? . Doesnt swelling bring white blood cells and nutrients to the damaged area? . Well heres the thing about swelling and why its important to reduce swelling right away, in an acute injury!... . Swelling is the bodys natural response to damage, bringing lots of nutrients and white blood cells to repair the damage. But swollen soft tissue gets less oxygen, which inhibits healing and also hurts! A LOT! . . So what should I do, you ask? . . Well let me ask you this! If you cut your finger and it bleeds, do you let it continue to bleed?.... . NO! . You stop it! . Prolonged swelling can result in scar tissue instead of healing the injury. . So stop the swelling! . #icing a swollen ankle, knee etc. Will reduce pain, allowing oxygen to reach soft tissues and nerves. . . Life is active, get ProActive! . Insomnia can be an incredibly difficult condition to live with.... . But it can be managed through massage and self-massage . Here are some different self-massage techniques that will help relax the body allowing sleep to overcome an active mind! . The Foot: (can be done while washing your feet). 1. Heat your feet including the ankles with hot water. 2. Once your feet become red and hyperemic with dilated capillaries, use the palmar aspect of both thumbs at the center of the sole of the foot (arch), work in a circular motion approximately ninety times. This can regulate the liver function, strengthen the stomach, help induce sleep and promote health. . The Head: 1. Rub your palms together until they are hot. Then gently rub your face with your palms ten to twenty times. 2. With the tip of your middle finger, massage between your eyebrows thirty times. Then massage the ridge along your eyebrow for thirty times or until soreness is felt at the massage point. . The Ears: 1. Massage the upper part of your ear that attaches to your head with your thumb and index finger in a downwards direction twenty times. 2. Then rub your earlobes in the same way for thirty times until your ears feel hot. . The Neck: * Anterior 1. Massage the depression next to the mastoid process behind the ear with the palmar aspect of the index finger, rubbing and kneading for fifteen times. 2. Then massage with four fingers along the outer side of your sternocleidomastoid muscle (the muscle along the side of your neck) from top to bottom twenty times. The massage may be done with strength, but not too fast. * Posterior 1. Firmly squeeze the middle back of your neck with one hand. Hold the pressure for 15 seconds and slowly release. Repeat at the top and bottom of your neck. Cover the neck area three times and repeat on other side. . With these techniques you should be feeling calm and relaxed play some soothing music and drift on to sleep. .
