Let’s save one of the the oldest Churches in the Kootenays, right here in Balfour. Every $5 (or more ) counts. The Balfour and District Business and Historic ...Association Heritage Committee (BDBHA) is looking to raise about $35,000 to help with the purchase price and an additional $15,000 for wheelchair access and septic system for our historic heritage church at 8551 Busk Road Balfour BC. We only have until January 31 2021. The BDBHS has entered into an agreement with the Anglican diocese to purchase the church and has a year to raise the money. The overall purchase price of the church and fees are approximately $127,000 and the renovations more on top of that. Much of the money has been tentatively raised through grants, but we need community and private donors to help us to raise the balance. We'd be so grateful for your support for this community acquisition. The church was built by the community and maintained by us for 128 years. It is fitting it remain with the community for many more to enjoy. The name of the chapel will be the St. Michael's and All Angels Chapel and Performance Center.

HARROP-PROCTER COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS FAIRE Dear Harrop, Procter, and Balfour communities, The Procter Christmas Craft Faire and the Harrop Hall Last Chance Christmas Faire have decided to combine their events this year in order to host a Covid-appropriate Holiday Market. The event will take place on December 5th & 6th from 9am-3pm, and vendors will be spread throughout 3 festive locations in order to provide enough room for guests to socially distance comfortably while shopping.... The first location will be at the Harrop Hall, the second at the Little Red Schoolhouse, and the third at the Procter Hall. There will be a one-time entrance fee of $3 per guest, payable at any of the locations. Outdoor bonfires, warm drinks, and a festive atmosphere will encourage our community to gather in a safe space, while supporting our local artisans. This is intended to be a fun tour of our community, so guests will be given a different coloured ticket at each location upon paying their entrance fee. At the next location, just show your previous ticket and receive a new one for that venue. Once all three tickets have been collected, guests will be eligible to enter their name into the draw for a super-sized gift basket filled with products from ALL the vendors. All Covid safety protocols will be strictly followed. Please bring a face mask. If you are interested in being a vendor, please email Caroline Edwards at [email protected] or Barb Kingsland at [email protected] or pick up your application form at the Procter Store. Applications are due back by November 15th, and a full-refund will be offered if the Public Health Officer mandates changes to the Group Occupancy Limit and we have to cancel the event. Spaces are limited, so priority will be given to local vendors on a first come first serve basis. Hope to see you there! Dress warm for outdoor fun, and feel free to bring your bells, Christmas carols, and holiday spirit. Warm regards, Your friendly neighbours See more

The family of Irene Bridge would like to invite you to join their family in the celebration of her life. The memorial service is on Sunday January 26th, 2 pm at... the Procter Hall. Irene Bridge was born on July 14, 1942 in St. Paul, Alberta. She passed away on January 12, 2020 in Nelson BC Irene grew up in Saddle Lake Alberta and was a member of the Saddle Lake Cree Nation. Irene spoke Cree as her first language and attended residential school near Saddle Lake Alberta. After graduating from high school, Irene chose a career in health care and attended nursing school in Edmonton, Alberta. After graduating from nursing school, she pursued work in the North West Territories as a public health nurse in Fort Simpson. It was while working there that she met and married her husband Richard. The couple moved to Kispiox, B.C., where they welcomed their first child, a daughter Gwen. When Gwen was 18 months old they moved to their home in Sunshine Bay, where shortly after they had Christopher. Gwen and Christopher grew up on the family farm. Gwen and Jyrki blessed Irene with 4 amazing grandchildren Axel, Anna, Magnus and August. Christopher and Tara blessed Irene with their 4 beautiful children, Quinlan, Ariel, Alice and Mila. They will miss their kukum. Irene loved her husband, children and family. She was especially proud of her 8 grandchildren. She leaves her brothers, Carl, Patrick, and Eric as well as sisters Marilyn and Lillian. She was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Edna Shirt and brothers, Arthur and Tony, and Sisters Caroline and Vivian. Irene worked at Willowhaven Hospital which was at 6 mile and then for many years at Kootenay Lake Hospital. After she retired, she spent a 10 year stint as an outpost nurse, where she was stationed in places around the north, including Aklavik and Deline. Irene made friends wherever she went, she was gregarious and a particularly kind person who loved to show her care to her friends and family any chance she could. Her friends were a great source of joy and energy throughout her life, and a source of phenomenal support to her and her family during the last 18 months. Irene was a creative person who enjoyed quilting, knitting (socks for family were a particular passion), sewing, as well as gardening. She is greatly missed by her family, her loving friends and community.
