All of us in the event business know the immense value of a passionate and dedicated volunteer crew. These caring teammates are the engine that drives the Event Bus. Here in Halifax, we are uniquely blessed with a deep and experienced volunteer base. One that wins the accolades of event organizers, game officials, participants and fans time after time. Today, we at S|E|A pay a special tribute to the renowned JOEL JACOBSON as he celebrates a milestone birthday. Joel's *volunt...eer career* spans numerous decades and hundreds of volunteer contributions. Perhaps there should be a *Nova Scotia Volunteer Hall of Fame* with Joel as the charter member. From New York to Acadia to STFX, Coach Konchalski has been a key piece to every team he has been with, whether that’s on the floor or behind the bench. Although Coach K’s time with the STFX Men’s Basketball team was cut short by a season, he still remains on top with a Canadian college basketball record of 918 wins, 9 AUS titles, and 3 national championships! We hope to see you back at the Scotiabank Centre soon Coach!

Monday's news from Saskatoon brought the announcement from USASK that another coaching giant from U SPORT Men's Hockey has retired from the Game. The winningest coach in Canadian university hockey history, Dave Adolph set the standard of excellence with his record of 488 victories, eclipsing the U of A's legendary Clare Drake. At S|E|A, we've had the privilege of getting to know Adolph through his Team's three appearances at recent University Cup Championships...2015,2016 and... 2020. It seemed Halifax and our hosting acumen endeared ourselves to Coach Dave. His generous and gracious comments about maritime hospitality was a frequent refrain leading to establishing some endearing friendships amongst our Volunteer group, most noted being Lindsay Horne who became the "official" Huskies Team Host for 3 Halifax visits, 2 Fredericton UCups and the 2019 championship in Lethbridge AB. His teams left their mark on Halifax's UCup history. In 2016, the Huskies set the new record for longest OT game in a historic match vs host St. FX. In 2020, the western Huskies played one of only 2 games held before the tournament was suddenly canceled by the Covid-19 pandemic. Dave, you have a legion of fans and admirers throughout Hockey, especially in U SPORTS and in particular in Halifax.
