When in doubt, it’s a hard pass. Don’t risk a fire for the sake of a favourite decoration, folks. Replace old string lights with new LED ones to use less electricity and reduce risk. Test your outdoor GFCI receptacles to ensure they’re in good working order. Hit test and the power on the outlet should turn OFF - hit reset to restore power. Don’t overload your power source. Extension cords have limits on how much wattage they can handle and if they overheat, it’s a serious danger. Check them regularly and if they feel hot, unplug them immediately.
