Congratulations to the most recent GSAR Basic Course for Winnipeg SAR Member. Three additional teams will soon be ready to assist the Winnipeg Police, RCMP, Parks Canada and other provincial tasking agencies.

A successful Project Lifesaver Search in the Beausejour area. It is very reassuring for our electronic search specialist to hear a clear chirp on the receiver speakers as it means we are close. Thank you to the members of the public and the RCMP members that attended along with the Winnipeg SAR members.

Project Lifesaver Manitoba is a non-profit organization that supports use of radio frequency transmitters worn by our clients to help locate them if they wander from their care givers or a safe location. Electronic Search Specialists with the Winnipeg Search and Rescue Volunteer Association and the Winnipeg Police Ground Search and Rescue Unit, use hand held receivers to locate the transmitters. With a maximum range of approximately 2.5 km and a normal range of approximate...ly 1 km in the city, this technology has the potential to significantly reduce search times and get our clients home safely. As non-profit we are not currently a free service but for a low monthly fee we can offer an additional means of protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities including those with dementia, Autism, Down Syndrome and other medical conditions that may increase wandering behaviour.
