Looks like cochrane wave will have to be put on hold temporarily, the floods may or may not be at fault...

If anyone has any previous experience working with government we would greatly appreciate a few tips on how to get this thing going!

Proposed Cochrane Wave 09.10.2020

Proposal for a play wave in cochrane, comment your insights, possible name for the wave? I have just been discussing with other kayakers in the community and collecting their insights. We decided that a well engineered 10-15 ft wide wave/hole rather than smaller separate ones, would be the best option and easiest thing to do. Basically when the water is shut off/river levels are really low that when that's you go in and make river bed changes to create a surf wave. This proje...ct would also have good impacts for the environment because it helps circulate air into the water and creates clean breeding areas for fish, since there is limited fish population in this section of the Bow because of water fluctuation. Possibly LaFarge or someone could donate rocks. Then its up to hire a riverbed engineer/someone skilled volunteers to make the riverbed changes. The outcome will generate revenue for the town through tourists, kayaking events, will create a great new place for people to hang out, and will be a wicked fun place for the kayaking community to get out to daily. I'm sure people will be ecstatic to volunteer and fundraise to get this project on the go. This is where we think would be the perfect place to have it made because it's right next to a parking lot, right off the highway, very open and visible which makes it easy to find, and close to the skatepark (green arrow)---https://maps.google.ca/maps ... this is the style of wave we're looking to go for (like pointbreak on the Kananaskis River)---http://www.makeitmissoula.com//04/making-waves-in-missoula/ We could start the wave 10 feet of shore and the wave itself span 10-15 feet wide. It will not be river wide to still allow boat passage freely and easily. All the rafters coming through Cochrane on the Bow will also enjoy the new whitewater :) See more
