Most of us have long since put away our childhood toys and stories, preserving them for our children and grandchildren and for the lucky few great grandchildren. It surprises me how many adults forget the basic lesson of this story. In our consumer driven world, where so many things are now dispos...able, we are constantly searching for the cheapest price. It's been a long road traveled , getting from a young lad growing up in Holyrood, to opening Pro Post Foundations NL. Over the past 30 odd years in the onshore and offshore construction industry, there are still thing that surprise me and something that don't and always you end up somewhere you never expected. I could list all my qualifications how i'm a surveyor / drafter / data processor or a drone pilot but anyone in the construction industry know that we all have wo...rn different hats at different times. Through the long hours, the cold winters and the time away from family and friends, still though some jobs do stand out. Those are the ones that make the never ending hours of excavating, the tones of concrete pours and the miles and miles of asphalt spread over a life time seem not so bad. The EKOFISK jack up project was my first really big project. Six huge platform decks, perched on steel legs driven into the North Sea floor,were jacked up by 18 feet. I suspect that almost every Canadian knows about that project. 12.9 Km of steel cables encased in concrete to form the fixed link from PEI to New Brunswick. We were recovering the oil from the sunken oil tanker Erika. For the last couple of years I have found myself in Northern Manitoba working on the Keeyask hydro dam project.
