Proságo: Medeba's Christian Leadership Program 16.07.2021

Finding the Details - Tori-Lynn Marin The week of April 19th to 23rd, I lead with Beatrice and it was my last leadership week in Prosago. I really wanted to focus on preparation since I am still improving in that area. Being prepared gave be a lot of space to bring creativity and my own twist to things that Bea and I had planned. This week we planned a community night where we played a giant Game of Life which included running around Medeba to different areas doing things t...hat are related to the Game of Life. Since I had all my PLAID preparation done in advance, I was able to focus on my followers and my assignments. I learned how important it is to be prepared, it made it a lot easier to lead and I felt more effective as a leader. I was able to adapt, and I had a lot more energy and creativity. It is really important to think about details when you are a leader. While we were playing our Game of Life, there were a few hiccups that didn’t need to happen if I had run through the details of the game instead of only looking at the big picture. All of these little things are easily missed and are most times forgotten but they make the biggest difference in the end product. I was a lot more prepared to lead this week, but I learned that having the idea done, doesn’t mean that it will run smoothly. When planning, it is also important to structure what you are doing so that you can keep the details in order, and nothing goes missing. Giving yourself this time to do it make a huge difference. When planning a devotion called Reaching the Lost, I gave myself a chunk of time to iron out each of my points, making sure they lined up with my main focus. After all my details were laid out and dealt with, I was able to be creative in how I concluded my devotion and making it memorable. So overall, my last week as a leader in Prosago went well, I had what I needed planned and prepared, although some details were missed, I could still bring my energy and focus to my followers. In my leadership, I want to strive to set aside time to lay out all my details to make sure nothing is missed so that I can be an effective leader.

It is Never Done - Tori-Lynn Marin Oliver and I led the Visionary journey this year and we learned a lot about visioning from the speakers and the experience. We got the opportunity to hear from Peter Fujiwara, John McAuley, Peter Geldart, Arne Kislenko, Angie Peters, Scott Moore, Brain Lisson and Shawn James. They all had great things to say from speaking about how they got to where they are in their leadership, mistakes that they made and their philosophy of visionary leade...rship. The Visionary journey isn’t a physically challenging journey unlike our other ones, however, this year brought some other challenges. Oliver and I had to make sure that a journey that consisted of two full days of zoom calls was enjoyable and that our followers could still take away information despite the virtual separation and zoom fatigue. We were able to execute a great experience with the help of high energy, games and our excellent speakers. Something that our speakers talked a lot about was the culture in leadership, some of the sayings were; a leader is responsible for culture and should guard it, and how culture feeds into vision. The culture of your group is extremely important and as leaders, we must ensure that it is healthy and remains healthy. When a leader is making a vision, it is never just the leader making it, the culture of the group influences the direction of the vision. With Prosago soon coming to an end, Oliver and I took the opportunity to make our trip’s vision Explore meaning: The challenge we are facing is that the future after Prosago is uncertain and this week we are gaining tools to face that challenge. We wanted to answer the unanswered question that was weighing on our hearts, what happens when we graduate? We wanted this culture and relationships we have now to continue after Prosago, so with this vision, we hoped to provide more clarity to this topic. This is still quite a big question but we are getting more and more prepared for the day we all continue on different paths. The speakers had so much for us to take away to help us in the future, and something that stuck with me was the idea to revel in the knowledge that it is never done. It is the journey we are on, our growth, our visions, our goals and our life. We continue to move forward in life and something about this fact that it is never done amazes me! Nothing about our paths is set in stone, things will change and that's okay. Now, this path of Prosago is coming to an end, but my growth from it is not. So I can remember what I have learned here and keep moving forward knowing that IT is never done.

Establishing the Right Mindset - Hannah Seto In the month of March Prosago finally got the opportunity to go Winter Camping! I say finally because it was supposed to happen in January but due to covid and the second lockdown, the best option was to do the Winter Camping journey in March (spoiler: we all got sunburnt). Due to the later start time we had a lot more time to prepare and there was a longer lead up to it. Unfortunately, even with the extra time this meant we would... be on our Ice Climbing journey the week before Winter Camping. Thankfully, we would still have a couple days in between allowing us to gather gear, pack food and organize ourselves beforehand, and we planned for it. However, the weather had a different plan and the later end of the week was calling for rain. That meant our journey got moved ahead two days, and the new schedule went as follows: week of ice climbing, return back to camp, one day off, then -bam- Winter Camping we went. However, the day off was not much of a day-off due to the amount of prep we had to do in a short amount of time. This led to many of us being tired and unable to catch up to the mindset we were hoping to have for this trip due to the stress and exhaustion from ice climbing and minimal rest. In assisting Tori in leading our side of the trip, it was hard to be the high energy one when I myself did not have much energy and felt drained. However, I was leading a group with Tori that fed off high energy, that loved competition and thrived off encouragement. Yet, I was in a mindset of I’m too tired to lead right now. Although, what I realized in the moment of our Winter Tournament, was that even if what I needed in this moment is quiet, rest, or low energy vibes, my followers needed someone to be the loud one, to hype them up and get them motivated to participate in this trip. Meaning, I needed to step-up and be a leader even if that was not what I wanted in the moment. So, despite my tiredness, along with Tori, we cheered until we lost our voices, encouraged people in the games of the Winter Tournament and we bore sunburned faces along with the rest of our followers. In all, I learnt that even if my mindset was not ready to step-in to be the energetic leader, I was still able to be that person, and alongside Tori, we were able to step up and aid in the amazing experience that was the Winter Camping journey.

Thinking for the Best Outcome - Tori-Lynn Marin I was the assistant leader to the primary leader Annakke during the planning portion of the Winter Camping journey, and the leader of one of the two groups with Hannah as my assistant. We had a crazy experience leading up to our Winter Camping journey. It all started out with the whole journey being pushed back due to the lockdown over Christmas. With that schedule change, it put our Ice Climbing trip and the Winter Camping jou...Continue reading
