Good Morning! Today's Tuesday Tip comes from Neal Demmans! Now that sports are beginning to resume, we need to remember the importance of a warm up. After a period of inactivity you will not be able to do efficiently what you once were. Which could also lead to injury. A good warm up should last at least 5 minutes. It should increase your heart rate, which will deliver oxygenated blood to your muscles. The warm up will bring your temperature up allowing your muscles to... become more pliable and decrease risk of injury. A warm up should include a full body routine with a focus on the area you will be working in most. It should also include the full range of motion for each joint. Remembering not to hold for a long time at the end range. That is for after your activity. Here is a post on warm ups https://www.wyofitness.com/importance-of-warming-up

Welcome Back Beginning May 4! We are cautiously optimistic to be back in our clinic seeing clients in person beginning May 4. We had set out a number of protocols for our patients and staff to follow during that first week, and now that we are adding a few additional therapists, we have tweaked that protocol just slightly for the week of May 11. Please see below for more information: * Prior to your appointment, we require you to answer the following questions: 1. Do you hav...e a fever or new onset of (or worsening of) chronic cough? * Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing? * Sore throat? * have you been outside of the PROVINCE in the past 14 days? Before entering our facility: * Please wear a mask! If you dont have one, we have some for sale * Please arrive just before your appt time, you may enter the clinic, maintaining the standard social distancing requirements of 6 ft between yourself and others at all times * Once inside, our front staff will check you in, you will turn to your left where there is a "disinfecting station" to spray your hands * If you need a mask, you can pick one up and if your therapist is not quite ready, we will have a temporary waiting area with plenty of space for you to relax in until your therapist brings you in to the clinic! We look very forward to seeing you again soon!

Good morning everyone! Many of us are marking 4 weeks of working from home, or self isolating. During these unprecedented times we want to remind you to keep moving - and dont forget to stretch! These things are not only great for your physical health, they are fantastic for your mental well being also! If youre currently at home - working or not, dont forget to step away from your computer/T.V. Give your eyes a break, stretch out those muscles, and get out for a w...alk in your neighborhood with the kids, the dog, or solo (if youre not in mandatory quarantine that is). If youre not able to get outside, there are a lot of great body weight workout videos and Yoga videos available on YouTube for all skill levels!

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year!....But it can also be one of the most stressful and exhausting times of the year with minimal daylight, hectic schedules and perfect gifts to be purchased. Exercise is a great way to help yourself deal with all these emotions and in turn make yourself more productive. Fine small ways to fit movement into your day. 1.) Take a short walk on your lunch break 2.) Do some stretches and deep breathing for short periods throughout... your day. 3.) Meet a friend for a walk at the mall instead of a coffee 4.) Park further away from the store you are shopping at (you may be forced to this anyway so embrace it!) 5.) Take the stairs instead of the escalator/elevator when you have the choice. 6.) Put your phone down and engage with the people around you then you will be less likely to be looking down for an extended period of time. 7.) Keep moving intermittently while watching holiday movies...Try not to sit in one place for long periods. Pretty soon this extra movement will feel intuitive. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy Christmas holiday season! E

Good Morning! Todays Tuesday Tip comes from Sheena Fenwick, B.Sc., P.T. Tips for Maintaining Your Body For Gardening Season : - Warm up prior to starting to garden ... - Practice safe lifting techniques including keeping your back straight and hips back while lifting - If performing low level work, use a stool or knee pads if possible to keep back/knees in a better position - Move pots to a higher surface if possible so you can stand and pot your plants instead of forward bending - Take frequent breaks - Change the position of your back and knees often (for example, if in a bent forward position then change to standing and move your back into extension or a slight back bend to offload the structures in your back that have been stressed (picture of lumbar extension in standing); another example is moving out of a squat position into standing/walking). - Organize your tasks so that you can change what you are doing more often instead of finishing a single task all at once. This will allow you to change positions more often which is better for your body. Photo Credit: Dutch Growers-Regina

Good Morning, Todays Thursday Fit Tip comes from our own Neal Demmans, C.A.T. It may be long, but it is a very important one. Now that summer is upon us it is nice to get out and enjoy the sun. However, the heat can pose to serious issues when it comes to exercise and your bodies ability to regulate.... Your body cools itself by sending blood to the skin, which takes away from blood going to the muscles where they are needed during exercise. When the blood goes to the skin instead of the muscles your heart rate increases. Humidity increases this effect because your body doesnt evaporate sweat as readily. This in turn amplifies the increase in body temperature. Here are a few heat related illnesses: -Heat cramps -Heat syncope(fainting) and exercise associated collapse -Heat Exhaustion -Heat Stroke (most severe) - when the bod temperature gets above 104 F / 40 C. Symptoms of this are dry skin, confusion, irritability, headache, heart rhythm problems, dizziness, fainting, nausea, vomiting, visual problems, and fatigue. This is an Emergency. Warning signs of a heat related illness to watch out for: -Muscle cramps -Nausea or vomiting -Weakness -Fatigue -Headache -Excessive sweating -Dizziness or light headedness -Confusion -Irritability -Low blood pressure -Increased heart rate -Visual problems How to avoid heat-related illnesses -Watch outside temperature -Get acclimated -Know your fitness level -Drink plenty of fluids -Dress appropriately -Avoid midday sun -Wear sunscreen -Have a back up plan -Understand your current medical risks For a more in-depth look into heat related illnesses visit: https://www.mayoclinic.org//fitness//exercise/art-20048167
