If you've been looking to add more plant-based items to your menu (or are looking for a simple & nutritious meal idea), this recipe is for yoOou! Introducing: Smashed Chickpea & Avocado Sandwich! To prepare, grab the following items:... 1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed avocado, removed from peel 1 green onion, sliced cup tzatziki (can substitute this out and use plain Greek yogurt instead if you want!) Pinch of salt and pepper Combine all ingredients together in a bowl (it may be easiest to use a potato masher!). Once combined to your liking, spread onto your sliced bread, add a layer of fresh spinach, and enjoy! #NutriProvigo #Chickpea #LunchTime #PlantBased

Happy Earth Day! To celebrate, I thought I would share some tips to incorporate environmental sustainability through our food choices: Tip #1: Incorporate more plant-based proteins into your diet. Replacing some meat products with plant-based products is one way great to reduce our carbon footprint. Try options such as beans, lentils, or tofu.... Tip #2: Try freezing produce before it goes bad. Use these frozen fruits and veggies in smoothies, baking, or sauces. Tip #3: Don't be afraid to pick the imperfect produce in the grocery store. They often still taste as delicious and can still be used in many recipes. How are you going to celebrate Earth Day today? Share in the comments below! #NutriProvigo #Dietitian #EarthDay #Sustainability

If you're looking for a new delicious snack, you can tryyy: ROASTED EDAMAME! Edamame is packed with protein and fibre (and is delish roasted), making it a great snack! 1. Start by preheating the oven to 400F.... 2. In a bowl, add 2 cups (500ml) of frozen edamame, 2 tbsp (30ml) of fresh parmesan (grated), 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) of chili powder, 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) of paprika, some salt and pepper to taste, and 1 tbsp (15ml) of olive oil. Mix all together. 3. Place the edamame on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Bake in the center of the oven for about 20 minutes. For a crunchier result, turn off the oven and let them sit for another 30 minutes. If you've prepared roasted edamame before, what did you add in terms of spices? #NutriProvigo #Edamame #Protein #SnackRecipe #HealthySnack #PlantBased

February is Heart Health month, so let's talk about how a non-diet approach to nutrition can help to support your heart health! As a dietitian, I often see clients with new diagnoses of high cholesterol, or high blood pressure, which can be a very scary time. Using a non-diet approach allows us to focus on your health without setting weight-focused goals. This means that we can use our time together to talk about important goals such as types of fats or fibre, joyful movem...ent, or meal planning. The great news is, there are many goals that we can work towards, which will support your heart health, without having to monitor the number on the scale! If this feels like an approach that is right for you, book a free 15-minute consult with me to learn more. #DietetisteProvigo #HAES #WeightInclusive #HeartHealth

Today’s funny Friday is inspired by this orange wall. What’s orange and sounds like a parrot? . ... . . . . . a carrot. And yes, I googled orange jokes and spent a good 8 minutes choosing one. If anyone has a good (aka terrible) food joke, send it my way. #employee #dietetisteprovigo #happyfriday #foodjokes

Is your appetite affected when you are feeling stressed? For some, appetite may increase while for others, appetite may decrease everybody reacts differently to stress. Clients often tell me they feel guilty after eating ‘comfort’ foods when they feel stressed (or any emotion for that matter!). I like to remind them that emotional eating is OKAY and normal!... Enjoying some Mac and Cheese after a stressful day at work is part of being human, and feeling guilty about it can just add to the stress! By slowing down and purposefully CHOOSING to enjoy the Mac and Cheese, you will likely feel better and reap more satisfaction than if you were to quickly and mindlessly scarf it down.
