Here is a Scan of a recruitment advertisement in the Montreal Herald from September 19, 1812. The advert reads All able bodied seamen who are willing to enter into the service of His Majesty’s Provincial Royal Navy on the lakes and rivers of Upper and Lower Canada are invited to rendezvous at the house of Mrs. Grant, at the sign of the Sugar-loaf, Montreal. Bounty, $20 for each able-bodied and $12 for each ordinary seaman; pay $8 per month, payable at the end of every two months.
As a part of Amherstburg's annual River Lights Festival the Provincial Marine will be hosting a two night Christmas Open House on Friday and Saturday November 17th and 18th from 5:00 pm to 9:00pm. The Commissariat will be decorated in early 1800s holiday fashion, historically dressed Sailors will be serving hot apple cider and ginger cookies near a campfire on the Dalhousie Street side of the building, and Father Christmas will be inside, sharing a very old Christmas story at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 on both nights. The Commissariat is located at 224 Dalhousie Street, and is connected to King's Navy Yard Park, where there will be all sorts of wonderful holiday fun happening. http://www.riverlights.ca/ (Photo by Bard Judith)

Some good news for two members of the Provincial Marine re-enactment unit. After a thorough review by the senior officers of ‘Crown Forces North America -Naval Establishment’, the governing body for historic naval re-enactments in Canada, PM members Mr. David May and Mr. Dale Kidd, have been recognized and promoted into new roles within the Establishment. Mr. May, a long serving ‘Lieutenant’ with the PM, and recently working as ‘Acting Commander’, has been confirmed in hi...s rank and position of ‘Master and Commander Naval Establishment’, with seniority dating to August 1st, 2017. Mr. Kidd, for many years serving as ‘Master at Arms’ with PM and within the Establishment, and recently working as ‘Acting Lieutenant’ sat through the process of ‘A Lieutenant’s Board of Examination’ which was held earlier this summer. Mr. Kidd passed the examination, demonstrating excellent knowledge of the needs of the service. As such, he will be added to the Lieutenants’ list with seniority to date from 15th August, this year. On behalf of the full membership of the Provincial Marine, and with the blessing of The Establishment, we extend to Commander May and Lieutenant Kidd ‘Three Huzzahs and a Bumper’, and our congratulations on a job well done!
