PS Basketball 11.01.2021

We are not focused on what we can not control, we are focused on what we can create. Within the viaSport Return to Play Phase 2 guidelines, we are running our winter programs with limited capacity and are following strict safety protocols to ensure the health and wellness of our athletes, coaches, families, and community. We hope those waitlisted for the programs understand our limited capacity and we look forward to the day we can get back to running larger programs! With n...o contact or game play the focus will be on individual player development. While we all want to play 5v5 we do not see this as a lost opportunity, we see this as one gained. See you on the court!

From Coach Marsden "This year has challenged many of us in ways we did not see coming and I sincerely hope you are all doing well and you and your loved ones are healthy. Before I speak about the Summer Camps, I want to make it clear that myself, the coaching staff, and all of us involved with Passion Sports Basketball stand in solidarity with the Black community. I am currently working closely with leaders in the Black community on a plan to use our platform to make a seriou...s change. I hope everyone is educating themselves on the situation and understanding the importance of making a change. Many parents are asking for an update on the Covid-19 situation and how it will affect our 2020 Summer Camps. Our programs will run with limited space of 40 athletes. The camps will be spaced out into three courts, and broken down into groups of 5-6 athletes per hoop. With contact situations being severely limited, our camps will focus on individual skill development. This summer athletes will have the chance to develop their individual skills more so than ever before. We also have plans in place to add unique and new ways to teach basketball while maintaining distance, we are excited to put these ideas to the test in July. We are working closely with SMUS and we will have full details on our Covid safety plan soon. I can assure you, we are taking every step possible to make sure our coaching staff and athletes are training in a fun and safe environment. With the limited capacity, our first three camps of the summer are over 90% full and our first "I Work Harder" camp is now waitlisted. The camps set to take place in August are 60-70%% full. If you are interested in registering someone, I would advise you to sign up soon after you see this post to reserve the spot." Visit basketball.passionsports.ca to view all our programs and see registration details.

Summer Camp Update from Coach Marsden I hope you’re all doing well and your family is healthy throughout these challenging times. We know this summer is uncertain, but we are going to move forward with our summer programs with an optimistic mindset and hope for the best! I encourage you to register as you normally would. If the programs are cancelled you will receive your full refund. If we are able to run programs with limited capacity, it will be based on a first come ...first serve basis and the registrations that fall out of the capacity limit will receive their refund. So make sure to register right away to save your spot. Head to our website https://basketball.passionsports.ca/summer-2020/ for more info! I am very proud of the success of the Passion Sports Basketball programs over the last couple years. I’ve watch many athletes grow as players but more importantly have grown as people. I have seen our programs go from Coach Jake and I running a 13 player five day camp, to what would have been a 74 player camp this past Spring Break. We were on pace to have a record year and due to Covid-19 we have obviously had some setbacks. We all have. However, I encourage you to find the positive in every situation and do not use this as an excuse to stop striving for your goals. We are using this time to build our programs and enhance the experience for each and every one of you. If you can’t get in a gym to shoot, get out on your driveway and get better at ball handling. No basketball to watch on TV? Go on YouTube and study the game. Feeling down and missing your regular routines? Or need tips and advice on bball? Then text me. (7786797788) Need ball handling work outs or drills you can do at home? Check out @flightbasketballvictoria @c_mar13 or @thegrind.basketball on Instagram and see what they’re up to. We’re all in this together! Stay positive! . #iworkharder #passionsportsbasketball

It is easy to define a person for their accomplishments, especially when a person is as accomplished as Eli Pasquale. Terms such as 5-time National Champion, MVP, 3-Time CIAU All Star, Olympian, are all parts of what is perhaps the greatest Canadian Basketball resume ever. But to define Eli Pasquale by his achievements within the world of basketball would not do justice to the effect he had on the youth of not only Victoria, but Canada. For over 20 years Eli coached and nurtu...red the game of basketball to youth through his programs and camps leaving a legacy much greater than what he accomplished between the lines of the basketball court as a player. We now recognize Eli by terms like, Coach, Mentor, Teacher, and Hero. To recognize and appreciate Eli for all he did for others and the game of basketball in this city, each camper at our Winter Elite Camp will proudly wear a Blue or Gold shirt with a number 13 to honour and thank Eli, on behalf of too many of us to count, for introducing us to the game of basketball. Rest Easy Eli #VictoriaBasketball #BiggerThanBasketball

PS Basketball 27.02.2020

The 2019 Middle School Invite Camp had a little bit of everything. From heartbreaking last second losses to heroic upsets. Outside of the action there was a consistent message all weekend that takes us back to our roots of Passion Sports Basketball. That message is simple, you need to work hard to achieve your goals. Anything is possible with an "I Work Harder" state of mind. In other words: if you are willing to dedicate yourself to something and focus all of your energy on that goal then there is nothing that can stop you. I Work Harder is not just our motto, it's yours.

PS Basketball 18.02.2020

Your MSIC MVP, Finals MVP, and All-Stars! Cole Bekkering put on a clinic at the MSIC leading his team to an overall record of 6-1. Cole set an example on the court and off and earned the tournament MVP. Coles supporting cast was key and one who stepped up big in the finals was Ryan Gough. Ryan was instrumental in securing the Championship for Team Tesfagiorgis.... The All-Stars were Alex Baulne, Owen Lewis, Lance Cabal, Will Porter, Milan Pasquale, Heath Taylor, and Jarrah Chadwick-Rupp! Each of these players were a force at the MSIC and will be a force in the local basketball scene for years to come! Congratulations to our MVP’s and All-Stars! The future is bright! @j_gibzzphoto #passionsportsbasketball #MSIC19

PS Basketball 09.02.2020

Everybody loves an underdog story. Team "Cool" Blue gave us that story at the 2019 MSIC. The baby blue crew lead by Coach Hancox have been named the Team of The Tourney, and heres why. In a three day tournament with teams made up of athletes from over 20 different schools anything can happen. For Team Hancox, that "anything" wasn't what they had hoped. They came out of the gate Friday night dropping two tough games to finish 0-2 going into day two. The results were similar on... Saturday dropping another two games to finish round robin play with a 0-4 record, finishing last overall in the 8th seed. On the other side of that "anything" was Team Wilmott who cruised to a perfect 4-0 record and looked unstoppable, finishing round robin play as the 1st seed. It was David vs Goliath at the MSIC on Sunday morning. Team Hancox came out firing in the first half lead by Taiga Parmar's four triples, and Owen Lewis' 10 blocks. Yes, Owen Lewis had 10 blocks in a half. They maintained a 14 point lead most of the game. However, time was left and the 1st seed wasn't ready to give up. Team Wilmott pushed all the way back, lead by their All-Star, Will Porter. Wilmott's crew saw themselves only down by 1 late in the final frame. However, Team Hancox's pushed back and finished off the upset to become the first 8th seed to upset the 1st seed in Passion Sports Invite Camp history. They moved onto the semi finals to face Team Costa and the dream for the Championship ended at the hands of Team Costa and their All-Star, Alex Baulne. Alex's clutch rebounds and timely buckets put the game out of reach. The semi final loss sent them to the Bronze Medal Final against Team Gray who had a 3-1 record going into the playoffs. The game went back and forth and came down to the final 3:25. Hancox rolled all 7 players in those final minutes onto the court for different jobs and they did them perfectly. Justin Hinrichsen, Owen Lewis, Noel Robinson, Seth Fryer, Kaeno Bekkering, Eden Greene, and Taiga Parmar went from the team with talent that didn't gel, to well oiled machine, The Bronze Medalist and your team of the tourney. @j_gibzzphoto

Find something you love to do, a do it everyday Be obsessed. Balance can come later. Use your imagination. Put pen to paper. Declare your intentions. Set small goals. Knock them off, set more goals. Gain momentum, build confidence. Grow a deep belief. Outwork people. Play the long game. You don’t have to be the chosen one. The secret is build the resolve and the spirit to enjoy the plateaus, the times when you don’t feel like you’re improving and you’re questioning why you’r...e doing this. If you’re patient the plateaus will become springboards. Finally, never stop striving; reaching for your goals until you get there. Thank you to Coach Ian Hyde-Lay for sharing these powerful and important words from Steve Nash’s Hall of Fame induction speech during the guest speaker session at the 2019 Middle School Invite Camp.

The Toronto Raptors are going to the NBA Finals. Which is remarkable, but there is something bigger that’s happening that makes it so special. Kids woke up this Sunday morning and instead of turning on the Xbox they went out and played basketball. They tossed on their Raptors attire, jumped on their bikes and met at the courts. We live in a time where many kids are being told to go play, to be active, to enjoy the outdoors and turn off the TV. This Raptors run is special beca...use the kids see it, they feel it, they hear it, and before you can tell them to go play, they’re already heading out the door. This is what sport is all about, this is how it can change communities, the country, the world. Now this is where you’d usually see, Win the Championship or not, the impact the Raptors have created is already a win! Which may be true but let’s not be satisfied. Let’s go win the Championship.
