#DYK we monitor former coal mines on department-owned properties to ensure the public and the environment are protected from potential land collapses into former underground workings? In the fall of 2019, our Cape Breton Operations (CBO) team launched a geo-technical drilling program throughout a number of Cape Breton’s coal-mining communities. The CBO team identified five sites as being at risk of collapse, one of which was the Ray (Bozo) Steele Memorial Ballpark in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. In December 2020, excavation work began to stabilize and repair the areas at high risk of collapse. #NationalMiningWeek

You may have noticed a new structure in the skyline near Parliament Hill? We installed a 62m high tower crane that can hoist up to 6160kg of building material on the East side of Centre Block. That’s the equivalent of 4 midsize cars! Up to seven tower cranes may be used for the duration of the rehabilitation of Centre Block. A second tower crane will be installed this winter on the west side.

To provide Canadians with effective therapies as part of the Government of Canada’s response to #COVID19, we signed an agreement with Eli Lilly for an initial order of up to 26,000 doses of their COVID-19 antibody therapy, Bamlanivimab. Canada will also have the option to purchase additional allocations. Bamlanivimab was authorized by Health Canada under the Interim Order for COVID-19 drugs on November 20, based on promising data that showed the therapy reduced COVID-19-relat...ed hospitalization or emergency room visits in patients at high risk for disease progression. The Government of Canada continues to pursue an aggressive strategy to ensure Canadians have access to effective COVID-19 treatments. http://ow.ly/rjBx50CtLkE
