There is water in the Pool! We are now working on the water chemistry, warming it up, and a few finishing touches on other required maintenance. Once the water is ready, and new safety features are installed, the Aquatic staff will undergo training to review and practice new protocols. It is our number one priority to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff during the use of our facility. As soon as we are able, we will release details on the pool schedule, and the new po...licies and procedures in place. We know that many are eager to see the pool reopen, and we continue to appreciate your understanding and patience through this process. We miss you and are excited to swim with you again soon! Stay safe & have fun! - 14 Wing Aquatics

Stay Alert with Tubes We have talked before about dangers with inflatables, but let's focus on inner tubes for a second. As an adult, they are awesome to floa...t in relax in....but they can also be dangerous. A mom told me a story about how her 12 year old son and great swimmer, flipped over in a tube and was stuck. He struggled and sad enough told his mom that he gave up on life and thought he was going to die, only then did his body relax and then was he able to slip out of the tube. Scary! Tubes can flip over and hold people under. Tubes can take people to deeper water than they would normally and safely go. Tubes are challenging to get in and out of and can flip easily (someone I'm sure has video of me in these attempts :-). Tubes can create play or activities that are more dangerous. So, use caution. If you choose to use inner tubes in your pool, make sure you are supervising intently. Be alert for crazy behavior or activities that can be dangerous to weaker swimmers, and limit the number of tubes / toys to make sure you can see the bottom and can watch appropriately. Do you use inner tubes? Do you have any rules / boundaries in place? Have you seen any other dangers? Stay Safe! Stay Smart! -Natalie Livingston #watersafety #poolsafety #aquaticsafety #summervibes #kidsafety #swimmersafety #swimminglessons #momhacks #alivesolutions #alivewatersmartkids

In the age of all things PHYSICAL DISTANCING, it is also an important water safety concept. Kids should be taught to: +Give others space (we say at least a tube...!) +Don’t hang or pull on others (even adults) +Look below when jumping in the water +Be aware of anyone swimming under water, they will need space to come up and get air! +Be mindful of games that could lead to wrestling or tackling, people who are good swimmers on their own may struggle when someone is in their space or touching them. +Water watchers / guardians should be alert to these activities and provide safe guidance to keep kids on track! Stay safe! Stay smart! #watersafety #aquaticsafety #drowningprevention #6ftapart #physicaldistancing #socialdistancing #alivewatersmartkids #alivesolutions

UPDATE from 14 Wing’s PSP Aquatics on the Indoor Pool The Nova Scotia Government has announced that public pools are now permitted to reopen. At this time the Indoor Pool is currently closed and undergoing its yearly maintenance. We are working on tile repairs in the Pool and the Men’s Changing Room and making sure the basins of both Pools are squeaky clean! When the maintenance and the training of the Aquatics Staff is complete, the indoor pool will initially reopen to A...ctive Military Members. We will continue to coordinate with the Occupational Health and Safety team, the Canadian Armed Forces and the CFMWS on the progressive reopening to DND/NPF Employees, Military Families and the General Public. At this time, we will not be offering Canadian Red Cross Swimming Lessons, Aquacise, or Aquatic Leadership courses. We will be working diligently with the Nova Scotia Lifesaving Society and the Canadian Red Cross to develop policies and procedures to keep participants and staff safe. Once the guidelines are established and we are permitted to resume programming, we will begin reintroducing programs back into the Aquatics Schedule. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we continue to navigate this difficult time. Please stay tuned for future updates. The 14 Wing PSP Aquatics Team looks forward to swimming with you again soon!

14 Wing, Now that it's summer and the Atlantic Bubble is forming, many people in the Residential Housing Units are calling and asking about the outdoor pool sch...edule. Unfortunately, the outdoor pool will NOT be opening this summer. 14 Wing is running many recreation programs at a financial loss this year, and the command team has made the decision to cancel this seasonal activity. While the outdoor pool is a great asset for the 14 Wing community, it loses money every year and this is normally considered the cost of doing business and providing a quality service to the wing. However, this year, 14 Wing will instead invest in other programs, programs more costly to run in a COVID-19 environment. In short, the decision this year came down to (supervised) summer programs and daycare or the pool, and the wing commander felt it more important to provide childcare options so the wing could support families, the resumption of work and other activities. Thank you for your patience and understanding with respect to this matter.
