We are fortunate to get to interact with so many great people with a vast amount of knowledge in this industry. We decided we wanted to offer an opportunity to share in a part of this knowledge virtually in what we have called Table Talk. Plenty of the knowledge we have acquired over the years has been sitting down at a table with our customers and friends and we are thankful for everyone that has shared their ideas and thoughts with us. Happy New Year! We always enjoy setting goals for the new year and discussing new projects and plans, and while the start of this year is no different, 2020 has left some pause for consideration of the truly important things to focus on in 2021. While 2020 may be in the rearview, we hope the importance of gratitude, kindness and sincerity are lessons we can all carry with us into the year ahead. We hope that 2021 is full of moments that bring you joy, people that bring you love, stories that make you laugh, adventures that make you excited, and accomplishments that make you proud. ... and of course, good cattle. Bring on 2021!

We are excited to host our Spring Bull Sale on a new date this year! In talking with the great staff at Dryland and the folks that host their sale at the market the week after ours we’ve made the decision to go a week later with our Spring Bull Sale. In doing this we will have our bulls and females at the market the full weekend before our Tuesday sale. This will allow folks extra time to get through not only our offering but also the Grassroots Sale groups great set of Simme...ntal and Charolais bulls before both their sale on Monday and ours on Tuesday. We have a group of bulls again this year that are raised to last. They are bred to produce calving ease with nearly the whole offering being designed to work in a heifer pasture; a large group of them were raised by first calf heifers. They are the kind to keep females out of with teat and udder scores available on every dam. They have been evaluated for docility and are our friendliest set to date. We have scored the group for foot shape and heel angle to aid in your evaluation of their structural composure. Their ability to add calving ease and add weaning weight to a calf crop has been bred in for generations with excellent growth numbers through 205 days on the entire offering. New this year further further genetic trait testing with AngusGS has been utilized to further understand the composition of the strength of their genetic traits and the heritability of them. To aid in their longevity and development they have been weaned later and grazed alongside their mothers into winter; their 2020 born siblings are grazing at side their dams right now. They have been rotationally grazed with a hot wire as yearlings, worked with a dog, moved with horse and on foot. We are proud of the the type and kind these bulls are and the overall integrity they represent. If you’re not into grazing you don’t last long around here. Our thoughts on cowherd development are based in that ideal. We believe that cattle are bred to best utilize the land provided to them and should be developed to suit varying environmental pressures. Farmers and Ranchers are stewards of the land and we all recognize the generational value of the resource that is the land we are fortunate to be able to manage. As generations continue and cowherds develop and change, ...we recognize that being an operation producing seedstock, it is paramount for us to develop genetics that can thrive in a multitude of management styles and land resources. Our sale bulls are managed alongside their mothers their first fall and early winter and are expected to not only develop grazing in the snow, but to thrive at it. We believe that this solidifies their longevity as well as puts selection pressure on them as a whole; in order to find the genetic value in the individuals that accelerate during this time of their development. Athleticism is a genetic trait and we believe it starts at day one when these calves get up, suck and start grazing with their mothers; and shouldn’t end until they have bred their last cow. We recognize that profit per acre is measured in many ways and it is our unrelenting goal to provide cattle with athleticism, longevity, and integrity to add that value to the acres of land our customers run our cattle across. Our genetics are honest and sound because they have been tested for generations by utilizing grazing methods such as these. Jim just like Grandpa Pugh has always said, The cows come home better if there’s snow on the ground. Even with over a foot of it blanketing the river valley, these bull calf and their mamas were reluctant to come out of the bottom of the river and climb the 500feet to swath grazing.
