The Secwepemc people under the direction of the Elders have erected a Fire and are occupying the land on Mission Flats Beach along the proposed TMX pipeline route. Miranda Dick of the Woman's Sacred Fire Council, on behalf of the Secwepemc peoples, is overseeing the Fire with the support of campers. Secwepemc community members are calling for work to stop on TMX. Says organizer Anushka Nagji, "The Canadian Federal government’s TMX Pipeline and their ongoing occupation of our territories is encroaching on our consistent presence and land usage in this area, where we fish, gather medicines, hunt and get our families together since time immemorial.
