Working with a team from the Sustainability College at Dalhousie University on alternative ice-control methods including: -only salt -only ice-melter -only sand -only wood chips... - various concentrations of ice-melter (CaCl2) saturated wood chips. The goal is to identify the most effective way to provide traction and to melt ice. We are measuring how many Newtons of force it takes for the tire to break traction. Ever think about how much salt gets used on our roads, parking lots, and sidewalks? It would astound you. And its not sustainable.
