Here's a quick singing lesson video which touches on practicing vocal patterns. It's not perfect and unedited but you can sing along in parts!
For you Streisand fans, here's something I've never heard before! A new release of an extended version of "Funny Girl". I've sung Barbara's songs since I was a little girl and know them all. (My favourite workout is singing through the YENTL soundtrack!) There is a short but beautiful end section you'll love. For younger singing students, "Funny Girl" is a fantastic musical to watch and I recommend you learn the songs. The sequel "Funny Lady" also has wonderful music such as ...the song "Isn't This Better" and "It's Gonna Be a Great Day". #funnygirl #funnylady #streisand #barbrastreisand #musicals #1960s #learntosing #practicesinging

You know how much I appreciate being able to share singing performances by the masters so that we can study them and learn what's great about them - and also what's not so great about them. Here is a live performance video of the great Roy Orbison singing CRYING. It's so interesting to watch. I'd like to share my opinion and observations from a singing teacher's p.o.v. Roy Orbison is beloved! He is a national musical treasure and a true original. Many other superstar singer...Continue reading

I found a good resource for singing scales so I'm sharing it. Yes, singers should work on these too! Practising scales isn't just for instrumentalists! The more we know about music, the more magic we can create for our listeners! https://www.pianoscales.org/blues.html #singscales #practicesinging #singinglessons #ilovetopractice #practicescales #perfectyourscales
Singers: A reminder to practice - and enjoy the process! If you don't use it, you lose it! Happy New Year! #practicesinging #vocalpractice #singingpractice #vocalroutine #dailypractice #singeveryday #practicemakesprogress #singinglessons #singingmastery #vocaltechnique
Here is an effective singing warm-up I published last June. Make use of these vocal exercises on the internet - they're free and will help improve lots of areas of your voice! The singing starts at 4:25 but there is good information to hear from the beginning. It's a one-of -a-kind exercise I created myself. https://youtu.be/KaOEr4M9nv4 #vocalwarmup #freevocalwarmup #vocalpractice #singinglessons #popstar #voiceexercise #practicescales #singscales #purevoicepower #voicepower #tongueexercise #singclearly #pitchplacement #singintune
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! I recorded some holiday singing this year and felt the need to have it look festive. Needing some sparkle over here! LOL Here's a Christmas sing-along to join in with if you're so-inclined! It's nice to honour tradition with a classic carol speaking to the non-commercial meaning of Christmas.
I recently did a zoom voice care workshop for ACTRA Toronto and their AYA Committee. (Act Your Age) which was an informative 2-hour session about how to keep yo...ur voice healthy, well-maintained and robust as we get older. What a great group of folks! I got permission from ACTRA to mention this. The session was well-received. I issued a long handout with exercises and vocal information, but then another handout on care and health for the voice. At my age, my voice isn't behaving exactly as it did 45 years ago and I need to warm up in a more mindful way, it often takes me longer to warm up, and the stamina isn't what it used to be. So please maintain your voice daily with common sense and consistency so it will serve you well and into later years. IF YOU DON'T USE IT, YOU LOSE IT! With passing years, we naturally lose moisture, collagen, the chemistry of ligaments change and so forth. It is a natural process. Keep hydrating your whole body through these cold upcoming months. When you increase your water intake, it actually makes mucous more viscous (thinner) so it's easier to swallow away (swallowing is good exercise for those muscles that connect to the voice - either directly or indirectly). Mucous and phlegm can hinder the way our voices vibrate and cause us to force or work harder to make sounds. If you have any questions or challenges with your voice I welcome them either here or my DM. I can't spend too long answering but there are great resources I can also share that some might not know of. Happy vocalizing! See more
