NEW SERVICE ALERT Eyebrow lamination starting next week What is eyebrow lamination? It’s is essentially an eyebrow perm, smoothing down and straightening unruly or curly eyebrow hairs. Along with a wax and tint, eyebrow lamination is a great way to make the eyebrows appear my full and make them easier to style.... Pictured below is the before and after. This is so true! I was so blessed to be apart of many lives in my 38 years behind the chair, 23 of them in Sooke. This brought tears to my eyes thinking of you all and the times we shared together. I retired when my dear sister was fighting cancer, I guess it was my turn to cry behind the chair but new in my heart it was not fair to take space of such magnitude during your visit. However you can call ahead and we can arrange a pick up for your retail, we must manage the amount of traffic in our work space. Good Morning Friends! with the announcement Friday afternoon that we are able to open salons on May 19th my phone and message box is filling up with questions about why we are not opening this next week, instead we are keeping to our June 2nd date. Ill try to explain First off, we will need extra supplies that are not yet available at our supplier, these supplies will keep us and our guests safe. We need to have confidence in what we are about to do in uncertain times. ... It is impossible to social distance in the salon and esthetics business, and in order to do so we need to be emotionally and physically prepared. It is not that easy to ignore the fear and anxiety that surrounds us going behind the chair, as an owner I feel at times I am throwing my staff to the wolves, one minute we hear "keep six feet apart, social distancing is how we stay safe" "keep your social circle in a bubble" then WAM! you can open your salon and spa on the 19th of May? (All along our work order was for May 30th). it is not that black and white, I have a team to consider, I have our guests to consider, we need a plan that works and feels right, I need a staff that feels confident that they are not going to bring something home to their families. We truly care about you all on a personal level, we understand how important it has been over the years to look good and feel good and how the two go hand in hand. . As Stylists we have worked sick to not disappoint you, youve come in sick because a hairstyle will help you feel better. This will have to change, how you visit us will look different, your experience will not be the same. Protocols and guidelines are prohibiting a lot of our Pure Element features like snacks during pedicures, beverage services, magazines, constant chatter, did you know we cant talk to you during your hair cut? Yes these are all things that we need to know, and each week I will set out our guidelines for you. As stylists we become emotionally attached to you and your families, We cant wait to get to work, for now we thank you for being kind and patient, we will open when all our ducks are lined up, all safety materials are in our salon, and can be more confident that we will all be taken care of in a professional safe manor. Good afternoon Friends! We will open Tuesday June 2. unless they say we must wait longer. you will be receiving a call from your stylist starting next Tuesday. We will be calling the people we had to cancel from March 19 forward first, then we will be working through the messages. Please know we will not be able to work to the full capacity we have in the past, so we will all need to be patient. There will be lots of changes and expectations for your visit as well. By next week we will be posting guidelines for you to follow set out by the health minister and work safe BC. We look forward to seeing you all soon!

We are in the process of making some changes to our work space as well as our appointment scheduling to keep us all safe. We will require your patience a bit longer but just know we will open as soon as we are given a date by the Government. You will as well have to do your part to help us all stay safe during this re opening. You will be required to wear a mask during your vis...it, You will have to cancel if you are even slightly sick. Our staff can not work if they are even slightly sick, so we will need your patience. You will not be able to visit if you have been traveling and not taken the 14 days quarantine. We are all familiar with the 6 feet distancing so once leaving your practitioners chair we will have to be patient and wait our turns to go to the reception room. We will inform you of anything else we learn from the officials when we re book you all in. We will be calling people from the day we closed March 19 onward in order of cancellations. Good morning friends! As its been about 8 weeks since Ive seen some of you for you lovely lash enhancements...they are likely at the very end of their lives if there are still some hanging on. The last time I had mine on and removed, I think I sat there with the water pouring on my face for a good 5 minutes in the shower, rubbing my eyes like it was the first time Ive ever touched my eyes before. Now is the time to enjoy a good eye massage with coconut oil! (Washing your h...ands first of course) just take a small amount - pea size - of coconut oil and rub those beautiful eyes! Not only is it going to feel amazing but it also helps to calm down any inflammation, dark circles (I know I have some good shadows these days) and moisturize which helps to decrease the appearance of fine lines! Your eyelids and lash lines will thank you I hope youre all feeling well and enjoying some time in your gardens on these beautiful days. Missing you all! xo-Kelly-Anne

I know that it may still be some time before we are allowed to see our lovely guests again, so I would like to remind our brow clients to please leave them untouched. I know its hard to resist plucking those stray hairs, but I promise you the thicker and messier your shape is when you come in, the better your brows will be for it. RANT FROM A SALON OWNER! I find this article interesting, Ive been a salon and spa owner since 1982, first salon was as most of my friends know in Alberta. We had at least one health inspection a year not by our industry, but by the provincial health inspectors. Ive raised the question to the health inspectors for our coffee bar at Artisans garden, why in the 14 years have I owned a salon and spa that has, waxing, pedicure baths, a shower and 5 operating stations ever s...een a health inspector, yet we open a small barista with no cooking facility, and compo-stable cups and we pay every year for an inspection in order to operate? Apparently in British Columbia, salons and spas have only been inspected when there has been a complaint against them. Even after all the studies and reports about the bacteria in high end spas and sweat shop pedicure bins have been all over the news in the past ten years at least, there was still no red flag to our health minister to follow provincial inspections yearly. Now they want Who? to come up with health standards? this is bull shit!! We all pay provincial taxes and this is the only province that I know of that does not have Government regulated and inspected beauty standards, They didnt even have a red seal for years! the cosmetology association was never involved in health and safety standards and definitely not salon/spa inspections. Our health minister is handling this COVID very well, but this passing the buck in order for us to safely return to work is a crock!! You tell us what we are supposed to do! Not only has this pandemic brought out the lack of care in our seniors home that has been mentioned for decades to government of all ministries, but as well the salon and spa industry in British Columbia has been floundering and unregulated for far too long. Ive been waiting for over a month to have some sort of survey or guidelines to get this started and now they want a non existent body of industry regulators to sort out what we need to keep our staff and guests safe! If that is the case it looks like our guests may be waiting a long time to get a hair cut. Dont even get me started that she is OK with professional products being sold as custom color kits when it is totally against insurance policies. There needs to be a lot of conversations with us old salon owners in order for this industry to be properly managed at a government level let alone its own association. now I know you all love Bonnie, but this is a crap!

Hello friends! Its been 2 weeks of being at home now and I just wanted to let everyone know how much I miss our visits. For my nail ladies, please try and avoid picking at your gel, if you have a nail file the best thing you can do is maintain them by filing back the growth. You will do more damage than good by clipping or picking/biting. Gently buff the surface if you can and apply a clear polish to bring the shine back. You can always massage a cuticle oil of some sort in... as well (DAILY) to help keep them moisturized and healthy...with all this extra hand washing business, its going to take a toll on the strength of your nails. For my lovely lashes, to remove them - warm (as warm as you can stand it) damp cloths and coconut oil...gently alternating the two so you dont damage your natural lashes. Its not easy and its time consuming but the more gentle you are the better for the integrity of your natural lashes. Pedicures, oh I do feel your pain. I clipped my own today probably for the last time on my own...this little guy in here is definitely getting in the way. Try not to clip too far down and use a finer grit file to clear up any jagged edges - you may have to trust your partners to help you out. Do not clip the corners of your big toes down, keep them level with the tip of your toe, smooth the corners with a file. This will help to avoid any pain associated with ingrown nails. I wish I could be there to help you all out. I miss each and every one of you. Your stories, your recipe ideas and tv recommendations, solving the words problems with you. As busy as my little active princess keeps me, I think about you all often and hope youre all keeping well. Very much looking forward to catching up as soon as Im able to get back at it. Mornings like this when Im up before Mackenzie, drinking my first cup of coffee. I think about the guests that come into the shop, in my chair or with a coworker. Visiting them about trips, family visiting, food recipes, the projects they can never quite have time for ect. Anyone who knows me well enough, my job is my social life. Bottom of my heart I miss every single one of you. I hope everyone is safe and your family is safe, I hope you play around with the amazing sounding food recipes, and that you get to start and finish the projects youve been meaning to do. We sure do miss our guests! I just wanted to say it is going to be a difficult time for our color guests especially, you will be tempted to use box dies if this closure has to go on for months. I would suggest you stick with semi permanent and stay away from high lift blonds from box dies. I know its easy for me to say as Ive gone natural and I wont have to deal with re growth, but from my hair styling experience you will be safer to leave your regrowth until we are back.... I know I think hair is an essential service however it does not comply with social distancing guidelines. stay strong, be kind to yourself and your hair! if in need of shampoo or hair products you can ask for assistance from Artisans Garden. We have strict guidelines as to how many people can visit at one time but we can help you go upstairs to the salon and re stock your products. There is a few bottles left of root touch up spray. Open Wed through Saturday from 10 to 4pm. until further notice.

Covid-19 Virus update. As of today we have made the difficult decision to close for 2 weeks or until further notice. We will evaluate the situation as it is ever changing and keep you up to date on our phone message machine. This has been a very emotional decision for both myself and my team. We feel it is our responsibility even with our added precautions to follow health officials recommendations to hopefully stop or at least contain this virus from spreading even furthe...r. Social distancing is a challenge in our industry, we have followed added protocol over the past 4 weeks but its time to take more aggressive measures to ensure the safety of our staff and you our guests. We thank you for your continued support over the past 14 years and look forward to seeing you all as soon as possible. We hope you and your families take this time to enjoy the simple things life has to offer and hold each other close during this challenging time. In case you do not get notifications from the Artisans Garden, we will keep Artisans garden open Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 to 4 pm. The coffee bar will be closed to minimise risks. As many of you know our salon and spa is very clean, we follow proper sanitation of implements and pedicure tubs. For the past few weeks we have added a few extra cleaning procedures between guests, including door knobs, debit machine key boards, spraying down the chairs and bed between each guest.
