Hi! My name is Kate and I'm the owner of Pure + simple Waterloo! Also the one that answers all the DM's - one of my favourite parts of my job! I wanted to take a minute to say hi and tell you a bit about me...I'm a mom to two amazing boys (age 2 and 4) who from time to time help water the plants in the store, sweep, clean the windows and assist me on porch drop offs! I am also a wifey to an incredible man who keeps me grounded! They are my number #1 fans and I'm gratefu...l to have them along for the ride! I got into skincare at a pretty young age and started exploring the industry as soon as I started making money babysitting. Alllllllll my money went to skincare....can anyone relate? Fast forward to 2012, I finished my post grad in social work and began looking to start a career...for whatever reason (maybe it's the universe) my life took a complete shift and I started thinking I want to own a business. A lot of times my posts are not planned but inspired by clients that come into the spa or send a message over IG. A common theme we have been seeing lately, is people classifying their skin as sensitive when in fact their skin is sensitized (this is not a skin type, it's a condition)! Now what is the difference? You know nature vs nurture... think of it that way, sensitive skin vs sensitized skin. If you do have sensitive skin, your root cause is genetics and this is a s...kin type. Sensitized skin is skin that's been triggered by and conditioned to irritation by external and internal factors. Factors like alcohol consumption, stress, lifestyle choices, excessive sun exposure, diet, harsh ingredients in your skincare or overdoing it with exfoliation etc. Symptoms of Sensitized Skin are: Dehydration Acne Rashy appearance to skin, small bumps that aren't quite acne That "sunburn" feeling Redness and broken capillaries Skin feeling tight after cleansing Weather or travel can also trigger sensitized skin When your skin is sensitized your lipid barrier has been damaged, making it difficult for your skin to protect itself against aggressors! There is some good news if you do have sensitized skin...it is treatable + most importantly preventable! Step 1: Find out what is causing the issue and eliminate it.
