I had gotten this shirt for Chirstmas, as soon as I saw it my thoughts went right to my childhood. Whenever I asked why to something I could not do this is the response I got "because I said so". I hated that response and still do to this day. I explain to my kids when they asked why they can't do something that moment or day. Has your parent(s) said this to you or do you say this to your kids? #becauseisaidso #doulayeg #doula #kids #parenting

Reposted from @this_ruh MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT BIRTH Let's address three of the many common misconceptions about birth: 1. I have to have a C-section because the doctor said my baby is too big... False. Research shows that ultrasounds are notoriously inaacurate when it comes to predicting the size of the baby (Chauhan et.al, 2005). The true incidence of CPD occuring is less than 2%!! It’s frankly alarming how many moms are scared into a C-section using big babies as an excuse 2. I shouldn’t eat and drink during labour This is a big one! The fact of the matter is, women are restricted from eating and drinking during labour because hospitals are afraid of being liable if a woman ends up going into surgery and aspirates what’s in her stomach during the surgery. But research shows that the probability of this actually happening during a C-section is 0.66 per million (Hawkins, Koonin et al, 1997). 3 . I have to give birth in bed, lying down on my back This is one of the most common and nonsensical things that take place during the pushing stage of birth. Not only is it contrary to how mammals instinctively work with gravity to birth, birthing while lying on your back is linked to increase use of interventions like episiotomies, vacuums and forceps, problems with baby’s heart rate, and risk of mom losing more blood than normal. MYTHS BUSTED! Are there any misconceptions about birth you've come across? Lets hear about them #mythbusters #doulalife #knowyourstuff #information #halifax #laboranddelivery
