Welcome 2019 with a Cleaner Home! Welcome 2019! Here we go with a new year filled with new resolutions. Like most people (me included) you may have resolved to de-clutter, organize and keep a cleaner home in 2019. Inspired by my sister in law who has been working like a mad little bee the past 2 weeks to de-clutter and organize her home I went in search of the most helpful tips that we can all use to make 2019 a cleaner, more organized and overall less stressful year. I fou...nd a great video from the Clean My Space channel on you tube (see attached link) that outlines their top 10 rules to a cleaner home. My favourite tip starts at 2:35 where they talk about a donation way station. I’m going to start that one today! Let me know which tips you liked best and feel free to post any cleaning questions that you may have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALP7MIXz1xM See more

How to keep the 2 dirtiest rooms in your house clean in 10 steps & 10 minutes. Part 2-Cleaner Bathrooms! Oh, the bathroom! It’s where we spend a lot of our time having showers, brushing our teeth or just chilling out in the bath. All that time and use can result in one of the hardest rooms in the house to maintain and keep clean. But if you follow this quick routine every 2-3 days your bathroom will be worthy of those long tub soaks or even unexpected company! What you will n...eed: 1.) 2 Microfiber cloths- 1 for sinks & counters, 1 for mirrors (good quality like E-Cloth or Blue Wonder) 2.) Paper Towel (preferably made from recycled materials) 3.) Squeegee (get at dollar store) 4.) Vinegar Solution (1-part vinegar- 2 parts water) 5.) Environmentally friendly disinfectant (I use a thymol spray made by Benefect) Quick Bathroom Clean up Routine- 10 Steps in 10 Minutes 1.) Put all items back where they belong and basket items that should not be in your bathroom and place outside the room 2.) Fold or hang clean towels. Put dirty towels into laundry hamper 3.) Spray toilet (inside & out) and floor around it with Vinegar Solution-let sit 4.) Run shower with hot water for 3 minutes. Fill sinks with hot water and let sit for 3 minutes 5.) While shower and sinks are running/filling wipe mirror with microfiber cloth 6.) Stop shower and drain sinks. Spray shower, sinks & countertops with vinegar solution paying special attention to faucets and shower fixtures-let sit 7.) Wipe toilet and floor with paper towel, clean inside of toilet. Flush. Spray disinfectant on toilet handle, in bowl and floor around toilet bowl (helps to inhibit bacteria/viruses) 8.) Wipe countertops then sinks with second microfiber cloth, rinse with warm water. Wipe faucets 9.) Rinse shower with warm water. Squeegee inside of shower and shower door. Wipe shower head and shower fixtures. (Using a squeegee + vinegar solution helps to remove and prevent the accumulation of hard water stains) 10.) Vacuum Done! So easy a tween, teenager or husband could do it!! I like to keep all the necessary cleaning items in a small basket under a sink or nearby cabinet. That way I can just pull it out and I have everything I need in one place. The reason for filling sinks and running showers is too warm up the surfaces that are going to be cleaned. As a rule of thumb cleaning products work much better (eco friendly and conventional) when they are applied to pre-warmed surfaces (the dirt comes off much easier) resulting in less work for you! If you follow this routine your bathroom will be well maintained and can be deep cleaned every 2 weeks without problems. I didn’t include tubs in this quick routine because they should be deep cleaned weekly if they are being used regularly. They can be included in the quick routine however, I would suggest using an environmentally friendly bathroom cleaner such as Aspen Clean in order to help break down soap residues, dirt and grime.

How do you know if your green product is truly green? That’s a question that gets asked a lot these days as more and more companies jump on the environmentally friendly bandwagon advertising products with a variety of labels such as; eco-friendly, green, all natural, environmentally safe and many others. But did you know that most of the above terms are essentially meaningless since there’s no accepted or enforceable definitions within the marketplace dictating their mean...ing? That means a company can add essential oils to a product and call it all natural or an eco-friendly product can have a long list of chemical ingredients that may or may not be biodegradable, but the label has a tree, so it’s eco-friendly after all! This has created a situation where some companies are trying to cash in on the green movement without being green at all. It’s called green washing and unfortunately, it’s a common practice. Walk the aisles on any supermarket or home improvement store and you’ll see a variety of labels advertising green, all natural, contains essential oils which all give the impression that what you are purchasing is a safe alternative to the conventional product, but is it really? It can be difficult for even the most savy green shoppers to figure out if a product is not only safe for the environment but also their families. One of the easiest ways to navigate this maze is to look for a recognized certification label on the product or service that you are interested in. The Eco Logo and Eco Cert certification programs operate in North America and Europe to ensure that products that carry their seal of approval are safe for you and the environment. Each ingredient is evaluated for environmental and human safety thus ensuring the products definition is accurate. Companies must also submit the entire list of ingredients that go into making their products, so consumers know exactly what they are purchasing. This is very important since many companies do not provide a full list of ingredients on their product labels. A full list of ingredients is critical in making an informed decision for you and your family especially when using make-up, laundry detergents and residential cleaning products. Certification bodies such as Eco Cert and Eco Logo provide an essential service to consumers by ensuring that their list of approved products and companies are truly safe for consumers and the environment. No greenwashing allowed! For more information you can visit their websites. I would also invite you to visit the Environmental Working Groups website that allows you to research the safety of a variety of household and wellness products. I’ve attached a link to a search I did on a common household cleaning brand. It’s a real eye opener! As always, we only use certified cleaning products from either Eco Logo or Eco Cert, no green washing here! https://www.ewg.org//1690-MrCleanYourHomeProMultiSurfaceCl See more
