Purple Lotus Yoga 01.02.2021

Welcome to weekends at Purple Lotus this winter! There is something for everyone, so don’t let class names confuse or intimidate you Saturdays 9am: Gentle Hatha is a traditional yoga practice taught at a slower pace. This means reclined or seated warmups, followed by a variety of accessible kneeling, standing or prone asanas (poses). Hatha classes almost always incorporate a short meditation, pranayama (breath work) and Savasana (full relaxation). This practice will gently s...tretch, strengthen, and release tension. An amazing way to begin the day! Saturdays 10:30am: Hatha Flow is a multi-level flow practice. This means that there will be some breath-body movement (think Sun Salutations) as well as some longer held traditional poses (think Warrior 2). This level two practice can be strong, but is always taught in stages for every body. Flow class are fun because the teacher can get creative about warming up the body, sequencing poses and challenging students to try something new. Sundays 9am: Flow and Restore is a replenishing, slower flow practice that includes standing and balancing postures. This class winds down with nourishing restorative poses, pranayama and a longer Savasana (full relaxation). This practice takes care of both body and mind - enjoy the balance between movement and rest. All classes are available online and in studio .

For the month of January, 2% of all yoga classes and passes sold will be donated to SOWINS as well! Pain Care Yoga: We offer this special series to bring people together who are living with persistent pain. You will explore and unpack the nature of pain through understanding of current pain science and learn the powerful role yoga can play to help regain a sense of agency over your well being. We are excited to welcome Dana back to our studio to share her knowledge, experience and open-hearted grace as a Pain Care Yoga certified teacher who walks her own path of living with persistent pain. This small group series will be in studio so you can enjoy a friendly and supportive space. Please share with all those who could benefit!

We're excited to collaborate with @starlit_yoga to offer new Pain Care Yoga series! Now our community has two pain care yoga classes available, Wednesday afternoons with Dana Powell at Purple Lotus, or Monday afternoons with Natasha Scott at Starlit. This special class is designed for people who live with persistent pain. It brings together the science of pain with the practice of yoga to help those living with pain learn how to move with ease and live well. Suitable for those new to yoga and experienced yogis alike. Provincial guidelines have been updated and our studio is open and ready for in person classes sooner than expected! You can now practice online or in studio again. Please review our Covid-19 Protocols (see below) before coming back to the studio. We have put a lot of care into following the current guidelines for yoga classes to help keep our space safe. Thank you for your support! Please enter from the front door and exit through the back door to avoid congestion in the ...hallway. Wear a mask when entering and exiting the studio or anytime you are off your mat. You may take your mask off when you are on your mat practicing yoga. Bring your own mat and props to class and place your mat on one of the marked floor spots to ensure proper distancing. Mats are spaced so all students have a 2.6m x 2.6m square to practice in. Please do not enter the studio if you have any cold or flu symptoms. We will continue to disinfect commonly touched surfaces between classes and provide hand sanitizer at multiple points.
