Merry Christmas! From our home to yours. I hope everyone will enjoy the day. I look forward to the spring and summer when we can gather in the field. Sharing stories and shaking our heads over the weather. Thank you all for your patience and kindness in 2020. May 2021 be kinder and gentler to all of us. I leave you with our 2020 version of Purple Ridge Farm Frosty and his cohorts.
Happy Thanksgiving! At least I’m hoping it will be a a wonderful weekend for everyone. We are wrapping up another season. Potatoes have been dug so if anyone wants potatoes for the winter, book an appointment to pick some up. We have russet, red and Jennifer(white). We also have kale. I will leave you with a few pictures from the day of the great potato dig.
Good morning! It is a fantastic fall feeling morning. Sunny but with that cool bite to the air. We are finished with peas and beans. They have been mowed and tilled into the soil. We are left with the fall line up of vegetables. Potatoes, carrots, beets, kale, swisschard, zucchini. At this time of year we typically will dig/pick for you and have it ready for pick up as per appointment time. I will leave you with my favourite morning walk. I wish I could send the beautiful scent of the sweet peas through to you. Then there is the enjoyment of watching the bees- large and small, dragonflies and the occasional humming bird. Wishing everyone a day full of all the small, special moments.
Just a quick reminder that we are by appointment only. I am typically closed from 11:30 to 1:30 as I visit my 98 year old mother at that time. Summer is short but my time with her is something that I can’t put a monetary value on.
Quick update. Available now: peas - shelling, snow and sugar snap, beans - yellow and green, beets - yellow and red, potatoes, swisschard, green onions, zucchini - yellow and green, kale.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Sunday. Two days of sun and no thunderstorm warning or watches. Kind of a great thing! Peas and beans are doing their thing so I’m hopeful that by Thursday they will be ready. A few pictures just to let you know that we are actually working and haven’t just gone on vacation! Enjoy the last week of July.
Another beautiful sunny morning! Then comes the thunderstorm. We have decided that due to the forecast and the delay of peas and beans we will stay closed this weekend and try for opening in 7 to 10 days. The saddest news is that we are pretty sure we will have no raspberries this season. The fall/winter/spring/summer has been brutal and they have thrown in the towel for the season! The peas and beans are flowering and looking perky so if we can keep the deer out of them all will be well. Beets and carrots are doing well too. Potatoes have beautiful tops but are still in the mud! Oh well. Agriculture is my Las Vegas. Every year you are gambling on the weather, bugs, deer, rabbits, weeds. Enjoy your weekend. Stay safe.
Our main crops are peas, snow peas, beans-yellow and green, carrots-orange and coloured, beets-red, yellow and cylinder, swiss chard, spinach, lettuce, green onions, kale and potatoes-5 varieties. Our fruit crops are haskaps, saskatoons and raspberries.
