Can you feel the love? (Or maybe more of a "I'll tolerate you" friendship, either way though!) Obviously not everyone has the luxury of moving to a new house with less stressors for their kitties, but everyone has the ability to do little things every day to help their kitties coexist with all of the other animals in their home. Those little things are having many resources (cozy beds, vertical space, a good number of clean boxes, food, water, and toys), having daily play ses...sions, using puzzle feeders for meals and extra fun, and sticking to a routine that your kitties can count on. We are in complete control of our kitties lives, so let's make sure they are the happiest that they can be every single day.

My virtual presentation to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon (WCVM) went fantastic last night! It certainly was different not getting to see everyone's faces and hear them giggle at the silly kitties in my videos, but as all of us have had to learn this year, different certainly doesn't mean bad. This video is of me and Siberia showing how to begin teaching a come recall. Siberia being the most perfectly imperfect student teaches all of us a very importa...nt lesson in cat training. You'll see about half way through when I ask her to come to me she decides that she is just going to sit right where she is. After a few failed attempts, she FINALLY walks over to me and you can see how I am so happy and proud of her. Instead of becoming frustrated with this goofy girl I wait it out and praise her like crazy for listening to me in the end. Not only does she do what I ask because of it, which is awesome, but she also gave me a fantastic example to show to the students of what patience and love while training can give both you and your kitty. Our beautiful Siberia is 13 years old today, holy moly! This year she got spoiled by me with a puzzle feeder and a new interactive toy to keep her brain and body young. Bone & Biscuit also spoiled this lady with a ton of kibble samples that I can use in her puzzle feeders, and we got an Omega 3, 6 and 9 oil as well! Here's to many more years of Siberia making us giggle with her goofy antics, claiming the entire bed as her own, giving us snuggles when we need it most, and always reminding me when it is food time. Love you my girl.

Candy Kittens, I remember the morning I woke up and turned to Austin and told him that the rescue needed fosters, and that I thought I needed it too. As you all know, we went ahead and gave it a shot. I also vividly remember the day I picked you 5 and your gorgeous mamma up, you were sooo tiny and just hours old. When Aus first saw you he said you were just jellybeans, and that's where mamma Bean got her name, and you were dubbed the Candy Kittens. We did so much for you duri...ng our many months together, but you did so much more for us. You truly helped make our house into our home. My mom and best friend were the best co-fosters, and they would come to check on and snuggle you 5 almost every day, and in return you warmed their hearts. My family would visit mainly to see the kittens, and it meant so much. When we had visitors they would always have to see the 5 cutest most cuddly kittens as soon as they walked in the door. You made everyone's day so much better. You also taught me more than I could have imagined. I learned how delicate and yet strong the tiniest kittens are and how amazing mom cats are. Your mamma also taught me how to care for a sick mom (lots of poop cleaning techniques too). As you got older you taught me the patience needed when weaning babies, how to be gentle and yet firm, and to trust the process. Once you were fully mobile kittens, I learned lots about kitten proofing, to appreciate the little things, how to laugh after a hard day, how to be carefree and goofy, and how to set up the best kitty forts. Now that you are all in your forever homes with the best families, you teach me to never take a moment with the ones I love for granted and how to miss someone I love so much but be so grateful that they are where they are, even if it isn't with me. You are someone else's cats now, but you will forever be my Candy Kittens. Love, your proud foster mom. See more
