Taking advantage of these now vacant workspaces are artistsKei Imazu and Bagus Pandega, who turned part of an empty mall in the Indonesian city of Bandung into a temporary exhibition space where they installed the works in Tiger Orchid, their presentation with Jakarta-based ROH Projects. The cavernous, consumerist arc...hitecture proved a perfect venue for Imazu’s vast and intricate paintings mixing hyperrealist and gestural elements, as well as Pandega’s kinetic light and electronic installations. DREAMING WITH LIONS MIAMI BEACH INSTALLATION! Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea discovered the inspiration for Dreaming with Lions, his grand, forum-like installation located on Faena Beach, through author Ernest Hemingway. In reflecting upon Hemingway’s novel The Old Man and the Sea, Arrechea sought to creatively channel and express hope, faith, and the strength of the human spirit through his work. It’s important to him that Dreaming with Lions stands as a monument ...to resilience during the unprecedented time we are all experiencing. The 62-foot-diameter rotunda is composed of stacked white beach towels emblazoned with quotes from the book in red text. Commissioned by Faena Art (the Miami Beach and Buenos Airesbased non-profit that’s involved in mounting public art installations) and unveiled in time for Miami Art Week, Dreaming with Lions is a unique and safe opportunity for an in-person art experience (all the more rare these days). The #COVID19 pandemic has intensified a worldwide mental health crisis that will affect generations to come. This especially impacts our low-income communities who already lack proper mental health resources. In response to this crisis, Chicago-based non-profit The Simple Good (@thesimplegood) developed the first Social Emotional Learning (SEL) based art activity book to support our youth's well-being and mental health. The TSG Art Activity Book focuses on developing a student's understanding of what the 'simple good' means to them through the influences of artists worldwide. Students will take a journey of identifying positivity in their lives and their communities and developing an understanding of how they can use their 'simple goods' to change the world.
