AKIANUT TRAIL WEB OFFICIAL INAUGURATION All Kuujjuamiut are invited to come and discover the newly completed Akianut trail web this Sunday, January 26th at 1:0...0 PM. After officially cutting the ribbon, all attending person will be invited to walk the trail web which is about 3 km in length. The meeting point will be at DYP building located at 1229 Akianut Street. The trail head is located between the DYP building and the iron bridge. Akianut trail is a narrow multi-functionals trail system developed for non-motorized uses such as walking, biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing. This community project was initiated during summer 2018 by Qajaq Network and sponsored by Nayumivik Landholding. Most of the path was built with the volunteers and men having community work sentence. The purpose is to allow all Kuujjuamiut a quick access to an on-the-land experience, from within the city limits. Most of the trail is located under the tree cover, so users can expect to be protected from wind chill all along the path. For the visit, we strongly recommend the use of snowshoes or cross-country skis. For the last two weeks it was possible to walk the path by boots, but this may not be possible by then depending on snow conditions. Qajaq Network is supporting men, facing different challenges, toward finding and implementing life bettering decision for themselves and their surroundings.
