With good rain in the forecast this week, the time is now to get fall food plots in the ground! Make'em Horny

We got the last of our fall food plots burned down this morning and within a few days they’ll be ready to be tilled and seeded. Also got some much needed rain over the past couple days and the beans are looking only 80 days until opening day!!

We made some headway today on a new property we’ve looped into the headquarter operation!!! Stay tuned for the progress with these plots, put in 5 acres of Late season plots and started some new mineral sites to hold deer during the hunting season and to provide essential nutrition to keep them healthy heading into and through the winter. If you’re going to plant one thing, make sure to Make'em Horny.

We get a lot of questions at our Banquets or from our members about what to plant and when. Obviously turnips, sugar beets and other brassicas get a lot of attention for their deer drawing capabilities during hunting seasons, but in order to maintain a healthy deer herd properly, you need to have the table set all year long. The first three photos are of a Make'em Horny Super Clover (mixed with double clean oats, more info in photos) and the last two photos are of a Make’em... Horny Manager’s Choice food plot we planted last July. Why we did this is because the managers choice is a turnip and clover blend that provides forage through the fall of the year it’s planted and then clover in the spring/summer when bucks and does require high protein forage the most. The Super Clover plot was planted this spring and is now providing high protein forage for the deer and we are going to terminate the Managers Choice plot and get it turned into a Fall Feedbag/Hideout plot. We hope all of you are staying safe during these unprecedented times! But look on the bright side, these self-isolation measures are great for doing property improvements! We’ve been busy at Headquarters doing timber stand improvement, releasing white oaks around the farm by removing undesirable tree species from around them to produce more acorns and getting ready to start putting Make'em Horny mineral out and clover plots in the ground! Oh, and we’re also scouting longbeard’s and ready to go for spring bear stay safe everyone!

As per the current protocols recently released by the Public Health Officer our spring banquets and dinners have been postponed. I know this is disappointing f...or some members and downright frustrating for the many branch executives and volunteers who have been working over periods of weeks and months towards setting up our celebrations of conservation that both renew memberships and raises the funding to support conservation and the broader mission of QDMA in Canada. Please be patient over the next few weeks as we evaluate and realign the fund raising arm of our mission with these very real public health challenges. For those who have already purchased tickets our hope is our new dates will work out and that you can still attend in the future. For those who are worried about memberships lapsing, we can convert your ticket into a membership renewal and in this instance provide a revenue Canada Charitable tax donation receipt for the full amount. For those who want a refund, we will make it happen - but we ask for your patience in getting ourselves sorted. As a charity, our very existence depends on your support and given that a lot of money has already been spent getting the banquets ready to go we might need a bit of time to fully absorb this unforeseen deficit. We are currently working with the Carleton Place arena to find a date to reschedule. Great news from the Province regarding the spring bear hunt!! As most hunters and conservationists know, the hunt was cancelled for political reasons, not based on scientific and wildlife management factors. We are glad to see the hunt being brought back to it’s full capacity!
