Queen's Music Club 18.11.2020

Hey Everyone, To kick off the Come-Join-Dischord Raffle, we’re going to be giving away $25 to either Starbucks or Tim Hortons (it’s up for you to decide). The theme for this week is going to be Yacht Rock (See here: https://www.rollingstone.com//sail-away-oral-history-of-y/), so when posting your videos make sure it's a Yacht Rock classic for two additional entries on top of the rest! We’re announcing this week’s winner at 6:30pm on Sunday, September 20th. Good luck! If you need a refresher on contest details, make sure to check out our most recent pinned post.

Let's get jamming with Come Join Disc(h)ord! This week we’re going to throw it back by posting a song that you think is an Oldie but a Goldie! Below we’ve listed 5 easy steps we kindly ask you to follow while participating. How to submit a post for Come Join Disc(h)ord: 1. Record yourself playing any song from the theme/genre (the more creative, the better!)... 2. Upload that recording to the platform of your choice, whether it be Youtube, Instagram, TikTok, OneDrive, Google Drive a. The video should be a minimum of 30 seconds, a maximum of 5 minutes b. Title your submission with the name of the song and artist, and if you’d like, your name :) c. Make sure to use the hashtag #ComeJoinDischord and #QMC 3. Grab the link to the video and post it in the #come-join-dischord discord channel on the QMC server (https://discord.gg/zXedjyN) a. Add any description or blurb you want to accompany the video 4. Interact and talk with people about their submissions and see what you can learn 5. On Saturday we’ll post a compilation of our favourite three submissions of the week to our Facebook so make sure to stay tuned! See more

Queen’s Music Club wishes to acknowledge the devastation that is being felt within Canada, the United States and across the globe with regards to recent events occurring within the United States. Our deepest condolences go to the families and all of those who have fallen victim to the abhorrent and unacceptable execution of systemic racism. Racism has no place in the world nor is it tolerated in QMC, the demand for change will not be ignored. QMC is built on the foundation of... cultivating an inclusive and uplifting environment where all students regardless of race or background can come together to share their love for music. Queen’s Music Club is devoted to providing a safe and supportive space that encourages freedom of self-expression. As individuals and a community we strongly believe that it is everyone’s right to be respected and have their voices heard. It is exceptionally important that we all do our best to continue to contribute and strengthen this inclusive environment. Everyone has the personal responsibility to take the time to understand our own privilege, and to thoughtfully educate one another on systemic racism in our country, and across the globe. It only takes one person to start the conversation to initiate change and inspire reform in our society. It’s only by working together that we’ll see true transformation within ourselves and our community. We ask you all as members of QMC to speak up and support each other, let’s do our part to keep the QMC community what it really is a family. Queen’s Music Club will be making a donation to the Black Legal Action organization, we encourage all others to support in any way they can. Support by: - Sharing petitions, posts, blogs - Speaking up in your groups and communities - Educating yourself on related topics - Helping organizations through donations or volunteering
