Alia Vader and Veronika Buys did their project on Electricity. Electric current is electrons in motion. The path may be a conductor such as copper, silver and aluminium (we used copper). Free electrons can be forced to move from one region of the conductor to the other. The citric acid of the lemon reacts with the zinc and loosens electrons. Copper pulls electrons more strongly than zinc, so loose electrons will move towards the copper when the electrodes are connected by wires. Moving electrons are called electric current, which is what lights up the bulb.
