Missed our first podcast on Credit Scores 101? Dont fret. Here are the 10 major points: 1) Credit Scores are the only score that matters after you graduate, and you work on that one score your entire life. ... 2) How high your credit score is will determine your ability to qualify for mortgages, apply for loans, obtain credit cards and may even impact your ability to get a job. 3) A good credit score is 650 and above. The range is between 300-900. 4) You arent able to "reset your score", but you can build your credit score in the following ways: 5) Pay your bills on time 6) Limit the credit used and how much you owe 7) Start managing your credit card payments early to start building your credit score (Look for Student Credit Card options, such as Scotiabank Learn) 8) Limit the number of loans/cards you have. 9) There are two methods of checking your credit: We would suggest "Soft Checks", such as: Borrowell, Ratehub or Credit Karma. Most institutions have built-in credit checkers too. 10) Institutions will use "Hard Checks", which happens when you apply for a credit card, mortgage or loan. These checks "ding" and reduce your score so dont apply if not necessary. For the full episode check it out here: https://soundcloud.com/user-966469417
