In the sciences we are taught to not let our implicit biases affect our research. It is now time for us to recognize our biases towards racial/ethnic minorities. The underrepresentation of people of colour must be acknowledged and changed. Within the STEM fields, it is our duty to fix this disparity. We must actively speak out against racism and take action against the disenfranchisement of black individuals. We at the QSCU stand alongside the black community and other people of colour in the fight against racism and discrimination, and towards the betterment of society. Registration is now open for the West Coast Virtual Fairs Career, Volunteer, Graduate Schools, set for Tuesday, November 17th and Wednesday, November 18th . 180 organizations are now confirmed ranging from employers, graduate and professional programs, and industry associations. Student and alumni will need to go through these steps to register and prepare for the unique opportunity: 1. Register as soon as possible on UBC CareersOnline: https://ubc-csm.symplicity.com/students/index.php/pid195004 Within 24 hours you will be emailed your unique link to the Eventus virtual career fair platform. 2. Then, sign up for an account on the Eventus platform any time after Nov. 10th, where you can create a profile. 3. Then filter through the organizations on Eventus depending on your specific needs and book fifteen minute, one-on-one, time slots with the recruiters you wish to connect with via video chat. You can also sign up for group sessions with exhibitors that have them scheduled. No line-ups at this fair, but early time slot booking is recommended as spots may fill up.
