Conveyor install is progressing nicely at the UBC ( University of British Columbia) Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility (BRDF). In this hugely collaborative project, we performed the structural design/check of all the frames for the conveyors based on specs and shop drawings provided to us by AFS Energy Systems (AFS Energy), based out of Pennsylvania. This project had a number of unique structural details, including - 80-foot-deep piles which were required due to the swamp like conditions, - Reinforced concrete grade beam foundations, - Double cantilevered decks with no drop beams, and... - Offset deck columns.
