Journal Editorial: Help comes in many shapes and forms. Students have options: volunteering, donating, and raising money, to name a few. Additionally, students can leave their empty bottles in bags by their doors so the homeless don’t have to rummage through recycling bins.

Joe Goldberg, the protagonist of the television show You, and Barry Berkman, the titular character from HBO’s Barry, have a lot in common: they both want nothing more than to fit in and feel loved, they’re both striving to become better people, and they’re both self-centred killers.

Anonymous Postscript: I was circumcised sometime during the first month of my life by a doctor in the hospital where I was born. Until recently, I didn’t care one bit about losing my foreskin. When I thought about the topic, which was rare, I believed the myth that foreskin is just a useless flap of skin prone to disease and infection.

The start of in-person classes will be delayed, with the exception of a limited number of classes that require in-person teaching as permitted by the government. This includes clinical training that supports health-related programs.

Signed Editorial: In the past, women were exempted from drug trials for a number of reasons, like the possibility that they might get pregnant during the trial. Menstrual cycles, with their characteristically fluctuating hormone levels, were also viewed as an unnecessary variable.

Culturally and religiously, I grew up Muslim. As much as I love celebrating Eid, Ramadan, and other Muslim holidayI’m sure they exist, and I ask you don’t make fun of me for not knowing anyI was always jealous of other kids who got to celebrate Christmas. I desperately wanted to be a part of the ugly sweater and sugar cookie fun, but the religious connotation was enough to keep my family from celebrating.

No one commits to a role quite like Sacha Baron Cohen, but his dedication to duping real people is part of a proud history of performance art, which makes us laugh and cringe while teaching us about ourselves.

Before it returned to air its final seven episodes, I wrote an article condemning the series’ pattern of queerbaiting that spans over a decade and suggesting Supernatural would end its run without ever confirming romantic feelings between two of its main characters, monster hunter Dean Winchester and Castiel, his angel best friend. I stand correctedsort of.

Journal Editorial: We can’t rely on films to be the driving force for change. Instead, we need to advocate for policies that will benefit poverty-stricken communities more than films with positive representation ever could.

The Queen's Journal 24.09.2020

To put it bluntly, last week’s performance stunk. D.K. Metcalf’s lull continued, being held to under five points, while T.J. Hockenson and the Ravens’ defence also suffered uncharacteristically poor performances. To add to The Journal’s bad luck, our bench players Mike Evans, Mark Andrews, and the Jaguars' defence put on some of their strongest showings of the season.

The midterm season can be a stressful time for most students. Chasing down an ‘A’ for a 40 per cent midterm can feel like a do-or-die playoff match. The reality is, this time of year is crunch time.

Opinion: The misuse of ‘ACAB’ and ‘Fk 12’ provide critics with an opportunity to discredit the Black Lives Matter movement as simply being an excuse for young people to lash out at societal authority figures. Conflating protestors with partiers delegitimizes the concrete policy reforms being put forth as immature and unrealistic. As Black Lives Matter protestors advocate for concrete changes to the criminal justice system, the integrity of their message is critical to the overall success of the movement. Otherwise, these needed reforms will be written off as uneducated opposition to enshrined institutions.

Move more, sit less, sleep wellthis is the mantra of the newly released Canadian 24-hour Movement Guidelines for Adults. The advice is particularly important during the pandemic, when staying healthy has become even more of a priority.

Discussions focused largely on instances where certain aspects of a marginalized culture had been appropriated by Western culture, when it was okay for a member of a certain culture to allow another individual to borrow or adopt certain practices from a culture that’s not their own, and how the internet influenced cultural appreciation versus appropriation.

If you haven’t seen the show, it’s a charming telenovela with intriguing characters that touches on the most loved clichés of the genre without taking itself too seriously. For those of you who have, I wanted to take a moment before midterms to justify my binge-watching by ranking all eight of Jane’s love interests throughout the series. Of course, there are spoilers ahead.

The Queen's Journal 14.07.2020

During the current pandemic, generational dissent has only been amplified. Boomers have been generalized as angry and unreasonable non-mask wearers; Millennials and Zoomers are stereotypically flouting public health guidelines and partying despite the risk to their health.

While I’ve leaned into my Canadian roots in Kingston, I still have significant ties to the States. Some of my closest friends are scattered across New England, and my parents continue to reside in my hometown. The upcoming presidential election may not affect me as significantly as if I were still living at home, but it will affect my loved ones in a big way.

Editorial: Hate speech has consequences in any context, but especially in a classroom. Black students come to university to learn and pay for classes like anyone else. That education is compromised when the academic setting no longer becomes a safe space.
