It is with great sadness that we share the passing of John Bennett this week. He was a long serving Senior NCO who even after retiring in the early 90s continued to be involved with the Regiment. John Bennett was born in Northern Ireland in 1935, he immigrated from Ulster, Northern Ireland with his parents in 1956 after serving in the Royal Ulster Rifles. John joined the QOR in 1957. He was promoted into the Sergeants' Mess in 1961 and deployed with the Regular Force in 1961/62. As a Senior NCO he was a resourceful Quartermaster and a highly regarded member of the Pioneers, the Periods of Dress squad and the Rifle Team. John also played a key in recruiting in the 80’s during which his initial motivating welcome to new recruits will never be forgotten.
