The Office of the Vice-Provost, International, and the Queen's International Programs Office have been meeting in monthly learning circles to discuss anti-racism in international education. Together, we have taken the Ontario Human Rights Commission Call It Out training, and engaged in a group discussion on Ijeoma Oluo's 'So You Want To Talk About Race.' ... This week, we'll be coming together to talk about Eternity Martis's 'They Said This Would Be Fun,' a memoir about navigating a predominantly white, Canadian campus as a woman of colour. We're using these discussions as a foundation for critical reflection on our own programming and practices, and for the implementation of meaningful anti-racist initiatives moving forward. We'll be sharing more on our initiatives in the coming months!

Did you attend Day 4 of the International Exchange Fair yesterday? If so, you may have talked with Sari Ohsada (ArtSci ’19) who studied on the Killam Fellowship program at Arizona State University! Since taking part in the Killam Fellowship program, Sari has found it led to broader horizons and more international education opportunities: I am happy to share that I have moved, quarantined, and happily settled in Wolfson College, Oxford. I’m very grateful to have received two ...scholarships for my MSc in Environmental Change and Management at the School of Geography and the Environment and would be more than happy to connect with any student who might want study in the UK (or elsewhere internationally!) While the majority of my lectures are online until the foreseeable future, I have been able to enjoy small, social-distanced group meetings with my course mates and Faculty members at the nearby University Parks. I’m really enjoying being surrounded (through Zoom) by my cohort of 34 students from around the world. I’ve also been enjoying having complex discussions around what it means to be living in and addressing the most important and urgent issues of our time concerning our changing local and global environments. I am really living every moment of my degree here (it feels like exchange again) and know how to balance my studies and still have fun! It has become even more important that I incorporate that way of living into my career. Have you considered the Killam Fellowships Program? It is a multifaculty exchange program where you pay Queen's tuition while on exchange in the United States while also receiving a $5,000 US award (along with a health insurance allowance and mobility grant!) Applications are open now! We just updated our Apply Now page, https://www.queensu.ca/ipo/outgoing-students/exchange/apply. #GaelsAbroad #Queensu Fulbright Canada
