Sharing this message sent out via email from Principal Meloche: Hi Queen Victoria Face to Face Families! As this year continues to evolve we continue to prepare for the possibility to pivot to remote learning for possible school closures. Please review all the material below as we have some items that affect students, staff and parents. We want to gauge the number of students that would need devices should we close. We would ask that all families in need of technology fill i...n the questionnaire by next Wednesday, Nov. 25th. We have included resources to help access technology at home. 1. Below is the link to a parent survey about technology needs. This questionnaire is for students that do not have access to technology. We encourage one response for each child as in the event of school closures we will endeavour to provide devices for each child in a family. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx 2. Attached is a resource for our families. These are a series of short videos that will help our families to access technology. This is also on the Board website under the scrolling stories called E-Learning Support. The attachment could also be shared through Edsby or email. Parents Troubleshooting Guide to Accessing Technology.pdf Thank you for reading this lengthy message! Tammy Meloche, Queen Victoria Public School

Back to school questions? Everyone seems to have questions about back to school plans. If you have questions, especially ones that are specific to Queen Victoria, please post them here and we will do our best to get them answered by the school administration. Everything seems to be changing and there are many unknowns so any answers we post should be considered to be unofficial, but we will do our best to dig up as much information as possible for you.

QVPS Renovation Updates The renovation work on the school will not be completed in time for back to school. They are trying to get the outside done and all the electrical but there will still be renovation inside through November. Hopefully it won't take as long as the bathrooms did last year. The contractors are required to return the outside of the school back to the state it was in before the renovations started, so we expect trees, landscaping, and the play equipment wi...ll be restored 100%. If you have any questions, please post them and we will do our best to get them answered.

Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus situation your Home and School Association will not be running the Lego Robotics club this year. There are too many unknowns and we do not have the planning capacity to create the sort of safety protocols it would require. Sorry for all those who have supported our club in the past. We will return as soon as it is safe to do so.

Graduation 2020 The GECDSB appreciates the importance and recognizes the value of a graduation ceremony to celebrate students achievements in school. The act o...f gathering to acknowledge that success is a significant confirmation by the community of the milestone. However, due to the need to maintain distance from one another during the COVI-19 emergency, a traditional convocation is not possible. The Class of 2020 will still be provided the experience, but in a dramatically different format. Each school will be producing a video graduation which will include many of the familiar elements including official remarks, a valedictory address and the announcement of student awards. The video will be broadcast on YouTube at the time and the day previously arranged, prior to the school closures. Students and families will be receiving notification from their school as a reminder. The distribution of diplomas and certificates will be determined at a later time at each school. See more

The School Board received an award recently on behalf of the City of Windsor for heritage preservation for all the work that was done to renovate Queen Victoria and keep it serviceable for decades to come. Just a few years ago, Queen Victoria was slated for closure by the Board. The parents of our community stood up and made it clear that the school was at the heart of their community, that it was special, and that it was worth the time and money to renovate it and keep it o...pen for the next generation. Together, the trustees, school board, school administrators, skilled contractors, and the provincial government came together to spend millions of dollars and perform the necessary renovations to keep the school open: repairing the foundation, rebuilding the gym, renovating the bathrooms, plaster, paint, updated lighting, and more. There is still much more to be done. But the Home and School Association would like to thank each and every parent who showed up at meetings, handed out flyers, called their trustee, and generally made it clear that closing the school was not an option for this community. You made a difference! Thank you to the Queen Victoria community.
