This week at Quetico our deciduous trees are leafing out birch, aspen, poplar, willow, cherry, maple and even coniferous tamarack. Trembling aspen has the mos...t widespread deciduous tree in our northern forests. Aspen trees send out shallow roots that sprout new trees forming a grove. The trees are clones joined at the root and are considered a single organism. When you see a grove of aspen leafing out all at once, or changing colour in the fall simultaneously you are looking at one plant. See more
