Expired First Aid Training Certificates: Effective September 15, 2020 St. John Ambulance Alberta will no longer honour a grace period for recertification of expired first aid certificates or extended completion period of the blended in-class assessments for certification. Six of our seven St. John Training Centres are now open in the Province. Our Fort McMurray location is currently providing classes in a temporary location due to flood damage to our Training Centre. St. Jo...hn Ambulance is committed to ensuring a safe training and working environment at all times, following directives from the Public Health authorities and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). In addition to enhanced sanitization practices, we have reduced class sizes to ensure physical distancing requirements are met, students will have their own individual training space and equipment to use, and practical activities have been modified. After September 15th, expired first aid certificates will no longer be accepted for recertification. A full course must be then completed. Alberta’s state of public health emergency ended on June 15, 2020. As per Alberta OHS, Workplace first aiders who are able to take first aid recertification courses should make arrangements to do so, while observing all public health guidelines. While OHS officers continue to take a firm, fair and flexible approach to OHS compliance, employers are expected to demonstrate that they have done what is reasonably practicable to comply with requirements in OHS legislation, including making attempts to ensure workplace first aiders have current first aid certification.
