Quinte Search and Rescue 17.10.2020

The marine search and rescue services we provide are critical, and are often the difference between life and death for people in trouble on the water. In these uncertain times we continue to stand ready to respond whenever and wherever we are needed.

It’s National Volunteer Week! Did you know that the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary answers 24% of all maritime search and rescue tasks in Canada? These volunteers are essential to our organization and often provide vital assistance. Thank you for all you do! http://ow.ly/TZab30ol2dl

Help keep our First Responders safe. If you’ve been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 or have symptoms yourself, now is not the time to head out on th...e water. In a marine emergency, let us know if you have any flu-like symptoms when you talk to our Marine Communications and Traffic Services officers or the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. See more

An amazing weekend with our fellow volunteer partners in ground and air search and rescue!

Quinte Search and Rescue 08.09.2020

Hello friends and QSAR supporters! Once again...with great pleasure and with much pride...we would like to share another incredible and unique Search and Rescue exercise, that Quinte Search and Rescue was selected to be involved with this past weekend. If you recall...Dunrobin ON was the scene of a tornado last year which stretched first responders to their limits. This prompted an already successful program - that had been run for 5 years in Quebec - to be introduced in Onta...rio this past weekend for the very first time.....in Dunrobin. Quinte Search and Rescue was privileged and proud to be one of the three Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary units selected to participate in this inter-agency emergency preparedness exercise on the Ottawa river. QSAR worked along side several volunteer ground and air search & rescue agencies from across the province. We have included some links which are much more eloquent at explaining the weekend and all that was involved. Please take a moment and see the work done by your local and province wide volunteers to ensure your safety in disaster situations. We wish to thank you for another great season on the water and your continuous support as your essential local marine rescue service... and we're still free :) Please continue to stay safe on or near the water and wear your life vest. Remember...never far count on QSAR! https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1797789&jwsource=cl https://www.cbc.ca//preparing-for-the-big-one-earthquake-s

Why do you think this photo is important? Well...it represents two things we are very proud of at QSAR - this great nation of Canada..and the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary. We are honored to be first responders on our waters and serve our friends and Quinte guests and visitors. Quinte Search and Rescue were dispatched on a mission Aug 6 at 22:47 pm. A volunteer crew of 2 members - your friends and neighbors - responded to the rescue vessel in only 16 MINUTES!! Amazing re...sponse time from non paid volunteers relaxing at home! QSAR crew quickly departed and made haste to Forester Island near Deseronto to assist and rescue a vessel in distress with 4 persons on board...two who were children. The vessel in distress was located instantly by the crew upon arrival on scene, and all were brought back quickly and safely to shore. QSAR crew returned to base safely around 01:45 am...ready to go out again if needed! I am VERY proud of Andrew Maclean ....one of the key members of QSAR...in his flawless helmsmanship and navigation on this night mission. BRAVO ZULU Andrew! Remember friends....ALWAYS wear your life vest and practice safe boating and water safety. NEVER FAR....COUNT ON QSAR!
